Here are the 10 scary frames finalists, surprised they chose the frame from 'Crumb' which is obviously not directly from the Criterion disc. And they obviously chose the Royal Tenenbaums shot I said above, but it isn't mine.

Maybe I'm holding myself high, but I'm surprised nobody else (that I've seen) posted this frame in "Red Beard". (Not a finalist by the way)

I have a feeling Mon Oncle Antoine didn't sell in huge numbers. If that is the case, I fear that additional Quebecois classics won't be showing up any time soon. (Though I wonder if Mankiewicz's Le bons debarras / Good Riddance mightn't be a sleeper hit).

Le bons débarras would be a huge hit but I don't think Criterion would be the ones who would engage the restoring process needed on the 35mm master... If Quebecor decide one day to get the rights and remaster it I guess criterion would be willing to release the US version... (I'm saying Quebecor because I really don't know who else would be willing to spend (loose) money on french Canadian cinema...)

I can't believe anyone really finds that scene at the end of The Ruling Class scary. I may be biased, though, because I do not like hardly anything that precedes that ending.

I noticed that too. I wonder how many people will look at that and think, That looks like one of their weaker efforts -- and with yellow subs, yuck.

I'm a little disappointed in the choices Criterion made. I saw some really great submissions, and the ten finalists are underwhelming. Considering how many people submitted that Repulsion shot (and it's a great one), I bet it will win, as it's clearly a very popular choice. I'm perplexed by the White Dog (rather generic) and Crumb shots (the very fact that they have to depend on subtitles as part of the scary factor seems to go against the point of this contest), and creepier shots from Haxan were submitted.

Yup. I reckon the creepiest shots in that film are when it shows Charles' writing gradually becoming scribbles.

A lot of people are saying Rocco on Facebook too but can anyone tie this to a still or promotional photo? I'm sure this isn't right, but it looks more like Vincent Price to me than Delon.

If it's Delon, it's the worst likeness I've ever seen. Oskar Werner?

I know Price and he never looked like that in a film (always had a mustache). It definitely has to be Delon even if Roco isn't right though Roco was previously released by Image.

No one else that I'm aware of was drawn that way in posters. Just look at this Roco poster for instance. Nose is way off though.

Price made lots of films without his mustache, but that's definitely not him. When I saw that photo, I immediately thought it was Delon. If it's not him, it kind of looks like Fernando Lamas, but that can't be right, can it?

I'm sorry, the Delon in your poster bears no resemblance to the Crit twitter post.

Take a look at Oskar Werner in profile here or here, both from Jules et Jim. I can't say for sure if Werner was ever drawn in a poster like the clue, but the resemblance is closer, the Truffaut is already in the collection and an upgrade to blu (with corrections to the reversed scene) would make sense.

I still don't think it is, but Le Samourai is about to be released on blu in France, so it makes sense.

Addendum: If it is Delon, that's too much sideburn for 1960. But in 1967, it would be right (look at the current Crit cover).

It most certainly is difficult to identify the actor on that poster. And fwiw, wasn't Rocco's bandage above his left eye?
