Re: Twilight Time
Good to know. I have money shifting around and won't be able to order until tomorrow with the card I'd prefer to order with. Fingers crossed that it'll still be available, but no big deal if it isn't.

It won't be. If you pay now, surely your bank won't process it before tomorrow anyway?

Thanks for the heads up, I was on the fence over this one, but I just found the Making of book by Dworkyn for a buck, and since I would have paid $15 for that, It's like getting the Blu for $20. My mind is good at justifying things.

I just followed your advice, swo...and I'm not even a DePalma fan. I guess that's the genius of the Twilight Time model.swo17 wrote:Buy it now, and if you decide later that you don't want it, sell it for $100.
59 copies left, by the way.

Thanks for the heads-up.kingofthejungle wrote:Swamp Water is still available directly from Screen Archives for $29.95.
I still think that's too high. I'd much rather have a bare bones DVD from Fox at half the price. Too bad the studio didn't care about it to begin with.
Oh well.

Body Double has sold out at SAE but TT's FB page indicates that TCM may a have a few left.

Re: Twilight Time
Body Double is now back up to order from SAE, with a new warning saying under 900 now remain. I guess they made a miscalculation. A similar thing happened with Christine.
As for the TT model changing, I suppose it's possible that the new deal with MGM could be entirely different to the ones made with Fox and Sony.

I've been particularly annoyed by Twilight Time getting hold of Body Double as I think this is perhaps the best of De Palma's films (or at least I think it is most fully developed, complex and playful of his early 80s sexy thriller cycle comprising Dressed To Kill, Blow Out and this one), fully deserving of a loaded special edition going into all of the Vertigo allusions, maybe with the inclusion of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax music video (which plays slightly differently in the context of the film itself). I would definitely have bought a copy were it available through wider distribution channels that I could import through. As it is, I'll be hoping that Arrow get their hands on this one at some point in the future (or Criterion three years from now [-o< )cdnchris wrote:This is one of the few De Palma's I haven't seen so when I heard they were down to their last few I was tempted, but ultimately didn't go for it. But of course I was only tempted because it was down to the last few, so I can only imagine there were many that bought it for the same reason. After this I'm really glad I didn't buy it and will wait for a possible (but not guaranteed) overseas release.

Re: Twilight Time
December titles:
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)
Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977)
Royal Flash (1975)
I'm in for the Harryhausen's, though Royal Flash already has a release from Odeon in the U.K. Can't find any caps/reviews other than one on Amazon.co.uk claiming it's rubbish.

Re: Twilight Time
Might as well post this here, since TT is releasing Oliver! later this year...
I rented Oliver! from my library hoping to watch it before the TT release and decide whether or not it is worth buying (although now that I see Sony U.K. will be releasing it, I may just import that release).
Well, the U.S. DVD has a manufacturing error from the idiots at Sony, where the side labelled "A" is really side "B", and vice versa. So, I ended up watching the final hour of Oliver! in its entirety before realizing so.
I don't know whose the bigger idiot: Sony for their inexcusable mistake, or me for not realizing that I started watching a film right smack in the middle of it.

Re: Twilight Time
I have split off the discussion of business models (TT and Olive) into its own thread. This thread will be just for discussing TT releases. Heed this warning or suffer my wrath! As splitting the topics involved reading most of the posts, you can probably imagine that I'm pretty tightly-wound right now.

Re: Twilight Time
Just to check- one of the things I actually find this thread really useful for is heads up warnings about titles that are running out of copies or free-release-with-x-purchase notices. Are those still kosher here?

Re: Twilight Time
Yes, but when it veers into "You see, that's the problem with a business model based on limited releases..." that's when I bring down the axe.

Re: Twilight Time
So I decided to watch the "director's cut" of The Disappearance and then immediately undecided, as it's not just in SD but a kind of crappy print with scratches and registration issues, or at least that's what it looked like in the first couple minutes. The HD transfer of the theatrical cut looked fine. I was underwhelmed by the film itself, but was that my fault -- is the "director's cut" that much better? It would be hard to imagine, but I'm open to being disabused of my meh opinion.

Re: Twilight Time
I was under the impression that the HD transfer of the 91 minute cut was the new version of the film while the SD version of the film was the original theatrical release of the director's cut. Personally I really enjoyed the 91 minute cut. The acting feels a bit flat through out the film and the narrative a bit predictable but it's a very beautifully edited film.warren oates wrote:So I decided to watch the "director's cut" of The Disappearance and then immediately undecided, as it's not just in SD but a kind of crappy print with scratches and registration issues, or at least that's what it looked like in the first couple minutes.
