I wonder if Criterion might go for Paul McGuigan's Gangster No. 1? I remember the film being fairly interesting, and it seems like the kind of thing Twilight Time would have snapped right up, had it been available to them (like Shallow Grave, MGM's edition is OOP).

They took those 4 but not "Ladybird Ladybird"? Or does someone else have the rights here?

While not a definitive resource, this should give some idea which Film4 titles are not presently beholden to other US licensors; it's a list of films the studio released themselves as burn-on-demand discs through online retailers in the US (including several which were subsequently lent to Criterion and Twilight Time).

Looking at the list, I have to imagine Criterion must be interested in releasing Prospero's Books, The Baby of Macon, Drowning by Numbers, and The Best Intentions.

TT have confirmed via facebook that Rollerball (1975) will likely be coming next year at some point.

Damn, they'd been releasing/announcing such a wonderful streak of films that I had no interest in buying.
Hey Arrow, care to start digging into MGM's catalogue?

Start? Most of Arrow's 2013 releases seem to come from MGM!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
The Night of the Hunter
Lifeforce
Squirm
The Long Goodbye

I probably missed a few.

It sounds like TT will be taking a poll very soon on HTF in regards to whether or not they should release The Lion In Winter. I really wished that CC had picked this up. I guess that won't be happening.

Are they going to include other films in the poll?

Yeah, it's great, but it's not Penda's Fen / Contact / Elephant great. I'll happily pick up a reasonably priced UK Blu of it, but I feel no need to upgrade my DVD at Twilight Time's extortionate rates.

TT release all manner of crap, yet they decide to have a poll to gauge whether they should release a popular and critically acclaimed film that won three Oscars and starred Katharine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole?

Even if every single vote in this so-called 'poll' opposes the release, they will release it. It's surely no more than a lame publicity stunt.

"Twilight Time DVD Label In the next few days we'll do a poll at HTF regarding this title...

Greg Pasqua Isn't this one a no brainer?

Suman Chatterjee You have to do a poll? Well, will you have some better films among the options?

Twilight Time DVD Label It's not about the film, but the condition of the master..."

God knows why they have to do a poll if the print is not in proper shape #-o

What a poll could do to the "condition of the master"?

The point is: "Materials will prevent this from looking as good as a lot of other Blu-rays. Would you still buy such a Blu-ray?"

I wouldn't. I'm totally fine with my anamorphic MGM DVD, which I paid $6-$7 for. I don't think highly of the Broadway play it's an adaptation of, but Hepburn elevates the material, as she so often did.

They might also be concerned over the fact that this poor master they have is already available in two international markets, and that diehard fans of the film may already have imported one of them some years ago. I would probably buy it, after reading some reviews. I've never owned the film on home video and I have a thing about owning foreign editions of American/British films.

Nobody will buy such release. That's a common sense. Then, why do you need to do a poll for that? I think we are missing something. Lately, TT's replies are kind of elusive. For instance, last week there was a whole thread on their FB page, which kind of hinted towards a June release for The Train. Then TT started replying back in a weird way mentioning mostly about D-Day Anniversary. I got lost finally. Somebody now deleted the whole thread.
Anyways, I guess we all have to wait untill the actual poll happens.

Of course some people would buy such a release. (Though less than they would at non-TT prices.) It will still look at least marginally better than the DVD.

As much I want The Lion In Winter badly, I would not pay TT's price if the blu ray is weak. We know that TT doesn't restore or master. They take what they get. I would hope at some point the Film Foundation and/or the BFI can help fund a full blown restoration. That would be sweet.
