Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Looks like Paramount is the new Universal with three titles already announced/revealed. I wish Sony/Columbia would start licensing to UK labels.

Not far enough! My copy of the Crit shipped last week...manicsounds wrote:Very nice of them to give everyone a heads up on "Nashville" far in advance, and especially just before the Criterion being released.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Within' a year MoC will have released 3 Fellinis. \:D/ Got to figure there is more coming. So far, a possible pattern, their releases are from 80s, 70s and 50s. That leaves the 60's. I am hoping that will be Juliet of The Spirits.
Glad for this because CC has been very slow in upgrading and releasing Fellini. Thrilled that MoC is doing them.

With regards to Fellini, they could also dip into the 90s and release The Voice of the Moon which, as far as I know, has never had an English-subtitled release.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Considering that Nouveaux just released a dvd of Juliet of the Spirits last year (and included it in this box a couple of months ago), I wouldn't think it likely. If MoC is doing more Fellini I think Satyricon is the best bet, since it seems comparable (rights wise) to Roma. Assuming the HD-materials are there.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I'm very pleased that they've gone back to doing dual formats. I also wonder if they'll eventually reissue most of the 2013 releases to include the DVDs, just like they did with their first Blu-only releases.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Well Criterion have signalled SATYRICON is in the pipeline, so the HD materials are likely to be there... Whether or not MoC would go for duplication on this one, is another matter...rockysds wrote:Considering that Nouveaux just released a dvd of Juliet of the Spirits last year (and included it in this box a couple of months ago), I wouldn't think it likely. Since MoC now has a relationship with Paramount, I wonder what the chances are of some Jerry Lewis (and/or, by extension, the Frank Tashlin therein) on Blu-ray.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
#78 is sandwiched between two Paramount licensed titles (and two more follow the latter one), so is it safe to assume it would also be a Paramount?

If it is then perhaps it's Days of Heaven, since MoC had a period where they had spine numbers matching year of release. What A Disgrace wrote:#78 is sandwiched between two Paramount licensed titles (and two more follow the latter one), so is it safe to assume it would also be a Paramount?

Days of Heaven would be great. I still haven't picked up Criterion's BD of it.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I would love to see The Cabinet of Dr Caligari get the upgrade, especially after seeing how spectacular the restoration clips are. But this will probably get a release in the 4th qtr, as MoC likes to have a special silent film release that time of year.

They're 5 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time, so 6 am to you.
We already know that one of the announcements for May will be Nashville. We're probably due for a new WCF box as well.

Not massively interested in many of these, with the exception of Ace in the Hole (and the already announced Nashville). Boomerang is an odd choice for the first Kazan in the series, and I'm far more likely to get the Fox Connect sets and not double dip here (although I would have if it had been a title like Viva Zapata! or Wild River with a good booklet and a decent set of extras).

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
What a strangely redundant set of releases for MoC: Harold and Maude, Nashville, Too Late Blues, If... all have decent US blus. Moreover, Criterion has already announced an Ace in the Hole upgrade. Oh well.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
As much as I may well buy one, or maybe two, of these, they are both titles I could get the from US on Blu-ray. The overlap between MoC and the US is disheartening.
I hope the trend towards more and more Hollywood, and English-language film in general, is reversed. I can't get away from the feeling that this sort of stuff should be being released by the studios. Who's going to release the European, world and silent classics otherwise?

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
I wish more of MoC's Paramount licenses were more "Olive" and less "Criterion". Their Too Late Blues release is going to be a huge no-brainer over the Olive release even if its extras amount to no less than a 10 page booklet, but I'm not so sure about the rest (though I expect they'll replicate the Criterion extras, plus a different booklet).
