Viola Davis just gave a speech in the same teary-eyed way that she gives all her big monologues in her movies. Who knew she could summon it so easily? I kinda want to take the award away now that I know how little effort it takes for her.

Did Kimmel just drop a Gary Busey joke? Really scraping the bottom of the barrel for material there.

Gosh, what a lovely and unexpected tribute to The Apartment. Gimme that over another canned montage of memorable movie catchphrases any day

He was talking about how he can't bring divided people together as host. "I'm not Braveheart. And he's here. And he's not bringing us together"

We should ban Sting from attending award shows.

I liked the conscientious objector joke better.

1985. (I'm a big Police fan.)

James Foley was a big hip-hop fan who kept an ear on the underground, not just on the major labels - they even mention it in the film. So it's weird to me to hear Sting tacked on the end. It's like that Simpsons joke, when Sting is digging Bart out of the well (and what Marge says). It's a documentary, so to be fair any big name help should be appreciated.

ACADEMY PRODUCER: Hey Gordon! You mind if I call you Gordon? Anyway, this song is kinda slow, what do you say we up the pace and add some dancers?
STING: No.
AP: Oh, OK ... how about you affect an awkward stance and sing with a laryngitis growl?
STING: Hmm, I like it!

I thought it worked out better then the takeout food bit from a few years back, but that was a low bar.

I gotta admit a Teen Wolf Too reference helped nudge it up a bit for me.

That was pretty great, always a fan of making people not expecting it made to feel uncomfortable. Was some of the finest acting we've seen from a few of those performers in the first few rows in years.

There are two ways to look at it, both of which are failures: "Look at these peasants making fools of themselves at the Oscars" or "Let's make the guests uncomfortable by awkwardly disturbing their boundaries for several minutes on live TV"

Dude, "peasants"? What is with you, and why are you even watching if you hate the Oscars so much?

Who was that with Ryan Gosling? Doesn't look like Eva Mendes.

Or "no one seems particularly uncomfortable and in fact don't have much reaction at all besides a dropped jaw or two and the whole thing is just a boring waste of time."

I can appreciate the idea - I mean, the Oscar ceremony for most people is gawking at celebrities on TV, so why not take that concept to its ridiculous conclusion and have it become a tour stop?

I really have no comment except please get over the fact that I'm allowed to dislike things about a telecast I've been watching since I was barely old enough to speak from time to time the same way you are and everyone else here is. There's been a lot to like about tonight's ceremony too. But I don't have enough eye rolls for "why are you even watching if you hate it so much"

Kinda awkward to make the stars of one of the nominated films read the nominees/winner, especially when it wasn't their film
