Lecinemaclub is showing right now Greaves’ Black Power in America which is a great discovery and a great state of the union that feels relevant now.

In it he decides to survey black America twenty years from the Civil Rights Act by interviewing black people in places of power such as in universities and Wall Street. In it he looks at the development of a new black middle class and pokes holes in a powerful way the illusion of power these middle class blacks present.

I just realized something strange about this film. Criterion gives the release year of the film as 1968, and IMDB offers the very specific release date of October 28, 1968 (with no indication of where they get this date - e.g. a film festival screening).

And yet, Miles Davis' 'In a Silent Way' used throughout the film wasn't recorded until 18 February 1969. So either the release date recorded everywhere is wrong, or this is not the original soundtrack.

It was filmed in 1968 but released in 1971, according to the William Greaves website.

Ha, I actually submitted that correction a few months ago because IMDb had the release year listed as 1991 or something. I knew Criterion listed a date of 1968 and when I looked for something more specific that year there were a lot of hits for October 28, but I have no idea where those might have come from... And this is why you shouldn't trust IMDb!
