Any thoughts? Anybody read the Yann Martel novel of the same title?

Michael, the book is a wonderful light read. Part of the story is a real appraisal of the imagination and the practice of telling stories in itself.

In short, the situation is that a young boy from India (who has chosen to simultaneously embrace the Christian, Muslim and Buddhist religions!?) is travelling with his family and all the animals from a zoo (that have been sold to a Canadian zoo) on a cargo ship to North America. The ship sinks, and the boy is stranded on the Pacific Ocean in a small lifeboat with a zebra that has broken its leg, a hungry hyeana, an orangutang that is going bananas, and a huge Bengal Tiger by the name of Charlie Parker (if memory serves me right). You can let your imagination play with that for starters, and then you will agree that this could be a really excellent project for Jeunet.

I have really enjoyed all of Jeunet's films, and this was a wonderful newsflash, Michael. Thank you!

wow nice. i know m night shyamalan originally intended to adapt this book, jeunet is obviously MUCH more exciting, and a much better fit for the book's delicate balance of whimsy and darkness. this should be great.

I know of the book but have no idea what it's about. I was intrigued by the sequence that was shown before Prometheus, and it was the first time I was truly impressed with the use of 3D. Of course, after the headache I received after watching Prometheus in 3D, I don't know if I'll be rushing to it.

I can't tell if it is a flaw in the film that we do not see the second story and that even if we had the point of the story it was pretty well summed up by Everybody Loves Raymond. The movie beyond this was pretty fun if super light despite its aim of serious philosophy (that isn't). Though not a great film even by Lee's middling standards I will say it has the best 3D I've ever seen so important to the shape of the film that it really is criminal to watch it any other way. Spectacle as it should be.
