I presume that's the Matti Bye score then. I give his wonderful score for The Saga of Gosta Berling the edge but I still hope this makes it onto the Criterion edition. The KTL score would be nice to include as well, though it's a little repetitive and only really fits the film in certain places.

I don't know if I would call this unreleased, as it is available in the Janus Box, however it certainly is the first time anyone without $600 to burn could see it easily.

Carnival in Flanders has apparently been in limbo for a while due to lack of decent materials but I'm guessing they've worked that out now if it's up for streaming. Unless their standards for putting something on Hulu are lower than they are for doing a physical release. If anyone watches this, please do report back on the picture quality!

Oh god, I adore Carnival in Flanders. Hopefully this means a release is forthcoming.

If that is the case, I wonder if we should be expecting Korda's An Ideal Husband to be released sometime soon. It is being pushed pretty hard on Hulu, the only title without a proper R1 release that they are pushing. Also, (although I mostly attribute this to the constant advertising of the movie), when you sort the 350ish titles by popularity, An Ideal Husband consistantly shows in the top 10 - 20 watched titles.

Is it at all concerning that sex and samurai films are always the most viewed on Hulu? I wonder how many people started Sweet Movie only to quickly abandon it after they found out it isn't exactly that kind of sexy artfilm they were hoping.
Hopefully some of them learned not to go by covers after The Night Porter

This may just be common sense but it's an official line anyway:
Are some movies going "digital only" (Hulu) and not to DVD?
Criterion on Facebook wrote:There will definitely be titles on Hulu that don't ultimately find their way to disc — including some real rarities that even the most seasoned cinephiles will be discovering for the first time, many of which have never even been translated into English before — but many more will be coming out in Criterion and Eclipse editions over time.

A bunch of new things on Hulu tonight. Here are the rarities/unreleased up tonight. Maybe some of these have been released on Home Vision or elsewhere, but I know they're not in the collection or in Eclipse:

Over the Moon (Thorton Freeland, 1939)
The Man Who Could Work Miracles (Lothar Mendes, 1936)
Lydia (Julien Duvivier, 1941)
The Ghost Goes West (Rene Clair, 1935)
Forget Me Not (Zoltan Korda, 1936)
Death Drums Along the River (Lawrence Huntington, 1963)
Cure (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 1997)
The Squeaker (William K. Howard, 1937)
Q Planes aka Clouds Over Europe (Tim Whelan/Arthur B. Woods, 1939)
Deep Crimson (Arturo Ripstein, 1996)
Conquest of the Air (Alexander Esway, 1936)

A total of 29 films added to Hulu up today, which brings the total up to 382.

Cure and Deep Crimson were previously released by HVE.

Criterion needs to get their ass working on more of these Chabrol's. I've never noticed how great his use of colour is in any of the previous films I've seen. I really hope they have more than just the two planned.

Men are not Gods (1936) - Walter Reisch
Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1937) - Hanns Schwarz
21 Days (1940) - Basil Dean
Summer with Monika (1953) - Bergman
The Soft Skin (1964) - Truffaut

Does anyone know if it's important that some of the titles come with the logos before the video and some are in the video?

Hmmm, having the Soft Skin up so soon (Is Janus still running this) has me wondering, wasn't it rumored for release next year or was that not true? Maybe it can come earlier now that it's up on Hulu (knowing all things from Hulu won't, but this has to get a spine #).

Janus has a restored print currently in theaters. It will still play for a few months yet. I wouldn't expect it until next year at the earliest. (They still haven't gotten around to releasing Rashomon and that was almost two years ago)

yeah that's what I was wondering. Just seems strange they would show it for free (if your doing a Hulu trial) when Janus is still showing it (which is why Criterion won't release a dvd/blu yet).

I have always assumed that there is very little connection between what Criterion is showing on Hulu and the Janus Rep schedule (unlike the obvious connection between the timeframe of Janus releases and the arrival on physical media). Kuroneko is on Hulu and we know that is a Janus film coming to Criterion. Besides, for most people using Hulu is equivalent to renting a movie on Netflix etal, therefore it is not overlapping into the profit margin made in the Janus rep showings or that of someone purchasing the DVD/Blu. In fact, on the contrary it allows people to see the films first and decide whether they want to take the time go go see it or spend the actual cash on a dvd.

Too true, there's a few titles I'd never have a second glance to buying that will now be must haves for me when they get a proper release (in fact this service is going so well for me that I might go long term).
