Reminder that the Second Run BD of Mysterious Object at Noon is region-free.

Nevermind. The sequel already has distribution via Broad Green Pictures; a company that Criterion does not have a relationship with.

West Side Story seems like the best guess to me as for why there are two flags with muscial notes.

I think Princess Bride is coming next year. Didn't Becker earlier this year (or at the end of last year) mention in an interview that they had the opportunity to do a new edition but they were having trouble thinking of what they could add to the film that wasn't already covered on the MGM release?

I was hoping the Weerasethakul release would be something that didn't already have a blu ray.

All of the almost willfully stupid guesses in this thread are incredible. Make your New Years Resolution to not do this

I would stay away from reddit, Facebook, and the original post on criterion.com, then.

This drawing looks to be drawn by hand, Cool World confirmed.

The absolute funniest thing about every New Years Drawing seems to be everyone universally relates a clock to mean After Hours.

As Wacky Drawings go, this is my least favorite of them. It's boring and uninteresting.

We miss Jeff. He is always one of the better guessers.

Very, very likely, as hinted by the clock in the drawing.

So what is the consensus?

These all seem pretty solid:

Cuban flag with musicial notes: Buena Vista Social Club
Puerto Rico flag with musicial notes: West Side Story
Candles: 16 Candles
Mystery box and clock: Mysterious Object at Noon
Bowl of noodles: Tampopo
Pan with the letter D: Dheepan
Jeanne Dielman: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles upgrade
Poison Bottle: Arsenic and Old Lace
Whirling Ghost: Ghost World
Corn "stalking" the letter R: Stalker
Caesar with Fanny Pack: Marseilles trilogy
Grave with sign: They Live by Night and Night of the Living Dead

Very excited about the Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles upgrade. A new digital restoration already premiered over a year ago as part of the Royal Belgian Film Archive's ongoing project to restore all of Akerman's films, so this was expected.

Same with Night of the Living Dead as the new restoration premiered a few months ago with much publicity. (It would be awesome if they issued a box set containing its two subsequent sequels - they're arguably superior films.)

Stalker we've been expecting due to Filmstruck. Would be very excited about this too.

They Live by Night completely covers the grave clue. Night of the Living Dead is just wishful thinking.

It's probably both; IMO.

Even if you don't think it's a clue for Night of the Living Dead; it's still likely to be on the slate. I really don't see Scorsese and The Film Foundation partnering with Scream Factory or Arrow over Criterion. It's also been noted that Romero was a VIP at the filmstruck launch.

Criterion may very well release NOTLD but that still won't make this a clue for it.

What in the clue favors Night of the Living Dead over any other zombie movie?

Is it more likely that the bottle of poison is for Todd Haynes's Poison than for Arsenic and Old Lace? Surely if it was for the latter, there'd be some lace or ribbon tied to the bottle or something. As is, it'd only be half a clue for Capra's film.

And here's a plain stupid guess that I'll post anyway: Those two letters are waving... Two in the Wave? (Not really worth Criterion's time, but it is about two of their cornerstone directors.)

What's odd is that the letter-R is wearing a suit. If it was just a clue for "Stalker" why not just have a plain R just standing next to the corn? Stalk+R. I feel that letter R is wearing the suit- not just as a clue for "Stalker" but also because that would make it a "suitor." suit+R. Although I've no idea why a suitor is waving to a T. I've heard the expression that a suit, "fits to a T" but not waving. I just hope this isn't a badly rendered clue for Altman's "Pret-a-porter"

The T is waving, could be "Bite" (bye+T)... any likely films with this word in the title?

Similarly, the R might be for the word Hire or Higher ("Hi, R!")
