In other Bluray news, Kevin and the cast are currently recording new material (another documentary perhaps?) for a “Chasing Amy” Criterion Bluray, making it sound like this dream will finally become a reality. Kevin has in the past revealed he wanted to repackage all the great Criterion stuff that already existed along with new stuff on top of that.

Also, Kevin Smith reports in his podcast that Clerks. is coming to Blu-ray (at 38:35)

Well, there's a contradiction between the Q&A, where he says that it's a Criterion Blu-Ray, and his SModcast, where he states that Miramax is putting it out.

The original DVD was technically put out by Disney/Miramax. It could be the same deal with the Blu-ray.

Or he was only referring to a port of the existing Criterion stuff and not an actual Criterion BD -- the Q&A doesn't quote him directly, so it may just be the writer's assumption.

It has always been my policy to get the best available "print" of any CC title, regardless of the issuer.

Should the CC not have any extras which are also on the better disc/print, I give the CC away. It'll be the same for me with Chasing Amy.

Here in Canada, the blu-ray is not a Criterion title: I have received it, and the package does not list any extras. So it goes beside the CC disc, which shall remain in my library for its extra features, on the shelf.

All those Canadian releases by Alliance are bare-bone discs with no extras and low-bitrate encodes on BD25 single layer discs. No offence but I wouldn't buy any of these, I'll just wait for "proper" USA release.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: most annoying performance in film history. I have no idea how Joey Lauren Adams ever got work in anything. Even Bio-Dome was above her.

I kind of agree with you guys on her voice/acting ability/career, but I know plenty of guys who thought she was incredibly sexy, and a great deal of their attraction to her had to do with her voice. I don't understand it, but her vocal chords really seemed to chung some wangs back in the day. Having said all that, I do think Linklater used her well in Dazed and Confused, mostly because he kept that role fairly simple.

Anyone worried about Criterion revisiting Chasing Amy can relax. Walt Disney will be issuing a new edition of Chasing Amy (and Clerks) on BluRay in November featuring the new extras that Kevin Smith was talking about last fall.

I find it amusing that the article Antoine links to mentions the titles being released on "Walt Disney" (as opposed to Miramax or Buena Vista or what have you). I have visions of Roy Disney or Leonard Maltin shooting a new introduction for the films, opining on the hilarity of, say, hermaphroditic porn or "fingercuffs," like these Kevin Smith movies are the latter-day successors of Davy Crockett or the Mickey Mouse Club.

I envision Walt himself doing a Dr. Syn/"Wonderful World of Color" type intro, standing in his office with a big black overcoat hanging on a coat rack, and he walks over to it and says "This coat was worn by a colorful character indeed, a wise young man known as (dramatic pause) Silent Bob...". Just imagine Uncle Walt trying to explain drug dealing.

They officially retired Buena Vista name and are known as "Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment". Everyone can relax - Criterion probably doesn't need all that money that they could have earned from Chasing Amy releases! (How much money did they get from DVD?)

Well, like I've said before, I'll pick up the Blu-Ray, and hang onto the Criterion, in case the extras don't port over (and for extra portability).

^^^ Maybe I'm easy to please but I find it refreshing that Smith uses Southwest Airlines to fly. Not that he could afford his own private jet or a Madden-sized bus, but you don't think of Hollywood directors as the type that would fly on discount airlines.

The Onion weighs in:

Not that anybody cares, but the OOP thread at DVDtalk lists this as OOP (since this really was a Disney release it went OOP with all the other Miramax titles Disney released.)

Sorry to bring this up, but who do I contact for missing inserts for this? Disney or Lionsgate? Or should I go straight to Criterion? Thanks!

You'll probably hear back from Criterion with the most reliability, assuming you're talking about the Criterion DVD edition and not the new Blu-ray (which was indeed put out by Lionsgate). Disney doesn't own the rights to the film at all anymore, or any Miramax film.

Criterion told me to contact Disney, who sent me a new insert directly.
