I called DVDplanet yesterday to ask why my copy of Ran had not shipped yet. The woman said that the order was placed on backorder. I asked why if I preordered it over a month ago is it on backorder... She said she didn't know. I asked what the point of preordering something was if it doesn't ship until one week after the release date? She said she didn't know. I asked her to cancel the order, and she said she couldn't do that. I asked why, and she replied because the shipping facility may be getting it ready to ship (but she didn't know for sure).

Basically, she gave me no answers at all.

I made a point to have her look at my order history over the last 6 months (well over $1000 has been spent there in the last 6 months). She again said there was nothing she could do. And then, as a kicker, as she was closing the call andsaying "thanks for shopping with DVDplanet" she hung up right in the middle of "dvd". What the hell?

This is officially my last order from DVDplanet.com. I'll try DVDempire for my January orders.

I wrote in for a replacement insert at the start of last month and am still waiting. If you bother JM, post the response so I don't have to bother him as well.

Dvd Planet, still fucking weirdos. Well, after the atrocity of last month they have been shipping my Dec pre-orders but they have not shipped Don't Shoot the Piano Player.

So much for Image Entertainment's distribution talents. This is the first time that I've ever had a problem with pre-orders because they are out of stock at DVDEmpire, Deep Discount DVD and Criterion DVD! All three are out of stock of either Forbidden Games or Shoot the Piano Player. What utter bullshit.

Just don't blame them when you get an Elton John CD in the mail.

this is probably not the place and I might should have mentioned it earlier, but tower.com has Shoot the Piano Player for $24.99 with free shipping (tax in some states though) I ordered last week and it shipped yesterday. I thought it might be a viable alternative since other sites seem to have it on order.

No biggie, I'll get it eventually. My only point was that you'd think that the major etailers would be well stocked with Shoot the Piano Player and Forbidden Games. I've never had a pre-order go out of stock on the release date, like these seem to have, some are missing Piano Player, others are missing Forbidden Games. It can't be because these are selling like hot cakes. I can only attribute it to shitty distribution...on the part of Image.

Yeah, the video store I work at didn't receive the copy of Shoot the Piano Player we ordered for today (we did get Forbidden Games though). I was kind of afraid the title got pushed back a couple weeks at the last moment. Glad that's not the case.

I think your attribution is correct. Apparently, Image has been letting down a number of companies lately. Milestone recently re-released Grass and Chang (those pre-Kong Merian C. Cooper documentaries), and Image hasn't updated their listings yet. Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, all the major e-tailers, and even the Buy-It-Now sellers at Ebay think these films are still OOP.

Hell of a job they're doing there!

According to a Criterion press release:
"The Children Are Watching Us moves from January to March, and Viridiana moves from February to a date to be decided."

That's it - no explanations.

Maybe they're reworking the Viridiana cover? Or maybe adding a commentary track?

As far as replacement covers/insert/pakaging for Criterions I asked JM for an insert for the Beastie Boys DVDs, since mine did not come with one and I received it. Then I asked for a rplacment for my Short Cuts digi pack cause it was all tore up on the bottom for some reason and he said he'd send one. Then I asked for a replacement slip for The Man Who Fell To Earth because the corner of it was dented. The other day I noticed my Schizopolis cover had a dimple/tear in it and emailed him asking for a replacement, he said he'd send one out. So I'm awaiting it anxiously.
Dear Thomas,

I'll send a cover along to you.

Best,
JM

he probably wouldn't send me replacement cover art for my OOP titles, right?

seriously, you had him replace MWFTE cause a corner of a slip was dented?

It'd better have been a big dent, otherwise, what a useless abuse of criterions resources.

Talking about abuse and kindness, DVDPLANET has both The Virgin Spring and Young Mr. Lincoln at 40% off. Wow!!

Well, he never replied... and I never got it... So no, I did not receive a replacement, but yes the corner is like pushed in and it ruined the corner of the book too... It doesn't bother me anymore.

Criterion's website informs that the street date for both The Bad Spleep Well and The Virigin Spring is on January 1, 2006. Is this information correct?

I picked my copy of "The Bad Sleep Well" up yesterday at Best Buy.... $21.99. Not too bad. I saw "The Virgin Spring" too, but they had that for $34.99, so I thought I would order that one.

The Virgin Spring and The Bad Sleep Well were removed from the Comming Soon section and placed on the New Releases section at Criterion site. Can anyone confirm this?

Damn, I'm super jealous of all of you with Best Buy's putting out The Virgin Spring. None in the DFW area did :(

I went looking today and all their computers say 1/24/06.

The Criterion website is now showing both "The Bad Sleep Well" and "Virgin Spring" with release date of 1/1/2006. They have been moved from "Coming Soon" to "New Releases" section. "Coming Soon" has no entries for January any more.

Criterion site has 1/10 for Bad Sleep Well now and again has it and Virgin Spring in Coming Soon section. I'm sure the 1/1/06 was some sort of default error in their computer.

So, I'd like to pre-order The Virgin Spring from DVDPlanet, but after seeing the mixed reviews in this thread I'm slightly skeptical.

Do you guys think that if I was to preorder from them, it would arrive in a timely manner?

Thanks.
