Speaking of early releases, I've noticed that on two occasions, the local Best Buy had some Criterions on the shelves early. Both were Kurosawas (The Bad Sleep Well and Ran). If I remember correctly, The Bad Sleep Well was out there weeks before its release date.
I know the Dahl book pretty well but I didn't get that the "golden ticket" thing here was just a joke. I've heard of a number of actual golden ticket promotions and I thought maybe Criterion had one now. Color me gullible.

I don't see what's so special about these since they're just reprints of the cover art?
The Masculin Feminin one-sheet repro looks nice though. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for any of them...
I don't think anyone in here think they are special in any way, we just like to tell what we got, that's it. If they were limited to a certain number, like 1,500 each, they might have made a little fuzz...

Says the man with a regularly updated webpage devoted to them. Fronts and backs.

I was a bit surprised to see a L'avventura postcard in my Band of Outsiders I ordered a couple of weeks ago. Most people just seemed to be discussing getting the postcards in newer titles though there have been a few exceptions. Nothing in my Le Samourai strangely enough.
What is the scoop with these postcards? I purchase the majority of all Criterion's releases, and to date, I have received one postcard "Tales of Hoffman"... I smell some kind of master conspiracy!
I think it is a conspiracy too. I get titles way in advance for review as well as buy titles regularly and all I've ever received was Le Samourai inside my Ran and Ugetsu inside Ugetsu.
It isn't like a big deal or anything, but I wouldn't mind having the Masculin Feminin or early titles in postcard format if only to hang them on the board at my desk.
Who knows, with this whole "Criterion Couture" coming up in the fall, maybe they'll start selling postcard packs too.
