Why can't I view any of Criterion's product pages on Safari? All I get is this:

Why can't I view any of Criterion's product pages on Safari?

Is there any reason that you have to use Safari? It is known for having a low compatibility with DOM and JavaScript. I think most Mac users have changed. Why don't give Firefox a try?

SAFARI's not as bad as you make out. FIREFOX is ok when SAFARI doesn't work (0.001% of the time, on bank websites or something) -- but SAFARI is pretty sound.

I can view Criterion's product pages okay right now in SAFARI. They must have been tweaking the website or something.

Thanks for the help. Oddly, the problem goes away when you visit the site as "www.criterion.com." (with the extra fullstop).

That's a server error, I don't think it has anything to do with the browser. I'm assuming you may have hit it just when they were working on something.

No, I haven't been able to access the product pages for at least two weeks until I stumbled on that solution earlier today.

I suppose this could go in this thread.

Anyone notice the connections they put under the pages for movies like "Mad Scientists!", "Music on Film" etc. Well, now there is one that's confusing the hell out of me

could be a "Cream of the Crop" list, as voted by the staff of criterion.

That's a fine idea, telling the customer that the vast majority of your products don't count as winners. Bravo, Criterion. =D>

Just looks like a list of the most canonized films that they've released.

The Children Are Watching Us over Umberto D? Haxan over The Passion of Joan of Arc? Elevator to the Gallows over Au revoir les enfants? Yojimbo over Seven Samurai? This list makes no sense if that's the (pardon me) criterion for inclusion. In fact, this list makes no sense at all. They must get a lot of questions along the lines of "I have Seven Samurai / 8 1/2 / The Seventh Seal, what should I buy next, because obviously, I'm not willing to take a chance on a film?"

Yes, this is a bizarre new category, in that there is no objective criteria for what's included. I mean, you basically know what to expect with a movie that's included in a category like "Mad doctors" or "Jidae-geki." But this?

And then there's the subjective element: I have a hard time believing that every single film on this list is going to be a "sure winner" for everybody. Personally, I can't stand either Divorce Italian Style or Grey Gardens.

I can't wait for the shelf of sure losers list.

You're missing the point, dear boy. I'm not saying they're bad films, but if you were to create a list of films available on Criterion DVD that, to put it mildly, divide audiences, you'd find those films on that list. Would you watch any of those (except maybe Hopscotch) with your mother?

What's wrong with Touchez pas au grisbi? If we're playing "one of these things doesn't belong" then I think it wins for sure. How about The Night Porter instead?

What is going on over at Criterion? The Teshigahara box is bigger than half those listed.

If my mother hadn't passed away already yes... We have similar taste.

Well, the new site has been launched. Overall I think it's looking pretty nice, but I must say that I'm deeply concerned that the latest title being listed is Under the Volcano. Unless they're just behind, we've had all of November's releases taken away. This doesn't bode well for Decembers announcements next week.

I'm sure they're still working out the kinks, but the new site doesn't display properly in Safari on a Mac, though it looks okay on Firefox.
