How much has been added to it? I remember liking it when I saw it on television, and it always helps in these films for the band to have a catchy song they are always having to play!

39 minutes, I believe. Yeah, the extra scenes actually hurt the film so I'm glad they included the theatrical cut as well.

I too admit that this film is a guilty pleasure. Kind of the whitebread flipside to Dreamgirls?

39 minutes doesn't surprise me, it felt even longer. The original cut is snappy and quickly paced, and after watching Hanks' director's cut (which I suppose in this case just meant he added every last bit of footage that was removed back in) I think the pacing of the theatrical version is part of what makes it so likeable. I didn't mind the added musical scenes though.

The lettering reminds me of the Harry Potter dvds, and it looks like the movie is intended to be in the children's section, when in fact the movie is about... fascism! Hardly appropriate viewing material for your elementary schoolers...

Yeah, it's kind of a shame that the 1-disc gets the nice Optimum-esque art, and the 2-disc is stuck with that really busy cover. Still, I don't think either are, say, "The Fountain" bad.
