Lee Chang-dong´s Poetry now remastered in 4K:

Perhaps a box set including the black and white version would be a good fit for Radiance?

Hi!
I retract the statement about Poetry in B&W. I misremembered, was probably thinking about Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, which has a "fade to white" version:

This is tempting, but since this is a standard Blu-ray-only release, I'll probably hold off. Anyone compare this with the original Blu-ray release? That one still looks great and since the film came out 2010/2011 (the scan was probably done in 2010 while the Blu-ray was released in the U.S. in 2011), I'm not sure how much of an upgrade a new Blu-ray could be.

Maybe you were thinking of
Mother, which definitely has a fully black and white version (and this has been released on BluRay.)

My US copy of Allonsanfan has a “made in Poland” sticker on it… how can that possibly be cheaper that pressing them at least on the North American continent?

Could be that Fran wasn't prepared to put up with the scratches that discs seem to suffer at the Mexican plant. Maybe the Polish plant has super competitive rates?

Hi zedz, thank you very much for this! Now I remember, it was indeed Mother I was thinking of.

I assume what happens is since Radiance’s discs are AB Locked they probably don’t need another pressing company to make Region A suitable discs since they already have suitable ones prepared and as a UK company it is possible that to them, it would be cheaper to get them from Poland rather than from Mexico, where as Finch pointed out, often put out scratched discs anyway. Though that’s just what I think happened.

According to the ad in the new Sight and Sound, upcoming films include work by Vittorio de Seta - whom I don't remember previously being announced.

I guess this confirms BOO is most likely Bandits of Orgosolo.

very likely that'd be announced tomorrow actually, judging where that is on the hint sheet. if it ends up including all the shorts, that's gonna be a behemoth of an edition

I’ve been considering ordering the French edition of Bandits of Orgoloso for months. I’d be very happy to get it with English subs and the shorts, and from Radiance too!

Between this and the 3 Mockys, that's a lot of movies to color-correct !

Updated the clues masterlist. The mystery of the Bunuel title remains, and we never had any good guesses for SMPO.

There is a bonus clue at the bottom of the newsletter, "Next month the bride wears white".
That's Mississippi Mermaid, right? The Bride Wore Black is another Truffaut film, but the bride wears white in this one.
I now realise there were bonus clues for Mocky and Shinobi in the last two newsletters, and in the bundle reminder e-mails too.

Good call, I was wondering if they'd get around to release the better Truffaut bride movie

I hope the film has better supplements than The Bride Wore Black, which was very light.

This might be of interest to Radiance:
Tamasa Films in France have Chabrol´s Les Bonnes Femmes, Nelly Kaplan´s La Fiancee du Pirate and three other films starring Bernadette Lafont. The online trailer clips look restored, with a bit of Hiventy/Eclair turquoise/yellow:
https://www.tamasa-cinema.com/film/bern ... domptable/
Tamasa also has 11 Carlos Saura films ("The Rebel Years 1966-1980) on release:
https://www.tamasa-cinema.com/film/carl ... 1966-1980/
On the World Noir front, there is L´Arme à gauche (Sautet/Ventura):
https://www.tamasa-cinema.com/film/arme-a-gauche-l/
These re-releases imply new or newish restorations, and perhaps available rights.
I quite like Sautet´s later dramas, such as Vincent, Paul, Francois et les autres... (starring Montand and Reggiani) and the series with Romy Schneider. These are finely written and acted, but perhaps do not fit in Radiance´s programming. What label might be a good home for these films, and films like them, such as Pierre Granier-Deferre´s and Tavernier´s Simenon adaptations (Le Train, L´Etoile du Nord, Le Chat, L´Horloger de St Paul)? Just a spontaneous reflection.

I listened to the commentary on the Kino and actually enjoyed it. was it an amazing track, no, but it certainly helped my appreciation of it a bit. I'd rate it as a good "hangout" track ala the Second Run ones from the Projection Booth. even just porting that would've been very nice, if not a new track. hoping for a stronger
Mississippi Mermaid edition for sure
I appreciate that the hints have been pretty spot on - I like having a general idea of what's coming. we got
BOO+,
MOCK, and
SU guessed on this forum and elsewhere. but if
SU was the Fukusaku, then what on earth is the Bunuel title going to be???

Could any Bunuel films fit into World Noir 2?

Maybe Archibaldo de la Cruz but I can't see them burying Bunuel in those sets, especially since they've been mentioning him by name for their future releases

Buñuel is way too big a name to be put in a boxset like that, unless it's a box of his movies. BUN was a 2023 teaser and more explicitly "Luis Buñuel" was fully written out on the subscriber info this year. I think it's gotta be a standalone release, and maybe miraculously he pulled off licensing some of those Mexican restorations that I'm pleading for someone, anyone to release.
