Site's offline for maintenance? How do companies still not learn to alert their server in advance of high traffic events like this?

Heads-up to Canadians: Unobstructed View is also running a 50% off flash sale. Their site is similarly bogged down at the moment.

Especially after the Fall sale which was the worst flub I've seen since I've been collecting. It's back up now though

I got my order in after the maintenance issue about 35 minutes after the sale started. Is it safe to think my order may ship today?

Not necessarily, I don't find any consistency in when they ship. I've placed mine pretty regularly within the first ten minutes of the sale the last few years and rarely get it shipped immediately, even within a few days after, while other people will do the same or put an order in later in the day and get it delivered sometimes that same week. I have no idea what goes into that decision making process but it's safe to say that nothing is predictable.

Thanks TWBB that was the exact info I was pretty much seeking.

Hilariously, it seems that, thanks to a #FilmTwitter/#PoliticsTwitter cross-over meltdown sparked by a podcast host's stupid joke, Salo has sold out.

I’m gonna need some more details on this, and yet am reluctant to search “Salo” on Twitter...

This is the tweet, which is hilarious in my book but YMMV [and NSFW because it includes a still from the film]

Wow, I wasn't expecting the Pete Buttigieg angle on what eventually becomes the Salo Twitter thread. I hope Salo is discussed in tonight's debate.

I was set on finally ordering Salo -- just my luck! Though this is probably for the best, as I haven't seen any of Pasolini's films and Salo may be an extreme place to start. I went with the Trilogy of Life instead.

I still cannot believe that comment propelled Salo into selling out, though I imagine stock was probably not super high for that one to begin with so who knows how many copies it took

I think Trilogy of Life is a great place to start. I really had no interest in seeing Salo until I watched those and immediately sought out the latter. I think the Trilogy allowed me to get better acquainted with his style enough that I really didn't find Salo to be difficult to watch at all. It's just a darker vision of what he was already doing in the Trilogy of Life.

I saw Salo first and it didn't exactly make me stop everything to explore his filmography, but it was definitely affecting and sparked curiosity. By contrast I didn't love the trilogy or a lot of what I watched thereafter, but enjoyed his first couple features and love Porcile.

I'm a big fan of this Chapo Trap House/Criterion Forum crossover.

Speaking of politics and movie references, regardless of his other failings, Ted Cruz invoking It Follows by name in one of the 2016 debates was great and a lot more interesting than that dumb tweet

I got shipping confirmation today. I did select the free shipping via USPS but my order is being shipped with UPS. Does this mean faster delivery?

Depends on where you live. If you're close to central Kentucky, UPS may be faster. On the west coast, I get USPS packages 1-2 days faster than UPS ground typically.

Mine as well. As ever, they love me enough to bump me up to free Priority shipping, but not enough to send me valued member early emails

Mine shipped too, which is a first in like five years at shipping before the weekend. I guess I made the nice list
