I feel like if you take the background of military dictatorship out of that movie you are really making a different movie. This feels like a completely different movie.

That seems to be a trend with remakes of Ricardo DarĂn-starring films! The pretty crucial and timely thematic backdrop of the Argentinian currency crisis in the con artist film Nine Queens inevitably (and understandably, though it underlined the pointlessness of remaking it outside its original cultural context) got entirely removed from its US remake, Criminal leaving behind, well, just a con artist film.

I've seen this trailer at the theater what feels like millions of times and its promotion seems to be trying to assure everyone that this is the most saccharine, paint-by-numbers film ever made. Perhaps what'll emerge will have some of Cody and Demme's more interesting sensibilities somewhere, but my God does what's being advertised look horrible.

This, however, seems to have the potential to be a lot of fun and is exactly what I am happy to see del Toro making, especially now that Silent Hills has been indefinitely shelved!

That looks pretty good. I've not seen The Armstrong Lie yet but I did see Stop At Nothing which is very good, so I'm already kind of invested in how that'll end up.

Silly me I thought it was an actual short film.

Should have used Pink Floyd's "Money" instead.
