Sabrina Sutherland clarified on the TPUnwrap podcast that The Return subtitle was Showtime's idea for marketing purposes and that Lynch and crew were always referring to this new batch of episodes as Season 3.

Trent Reznor said today that "She's Gone Away" was written specifically for the show.

Also the date 5/12/2017
5+1+2+2+0+1+7=18= the number of episodes
1+8=9= episodes are meant to be overlaying

Hah! On a sincere note, Tim Roth and Jennifer Jason Leigh did feel like Lynch's take on Tarantino's work, particularly the final shootout.

If Season 4 ever happens, Sheryl Lee should be the joint lead with Kyle MacLachlan, and a prominent role for Grace Zabriskie. Zabriskie was the MVP of the Return for my money.

I thought the same (also, those two actors are obviously QT vets).
Didn't love Chantal & Hutch; they were a bit too "recognizable" as character types, for me.

Another actor who may not be getting sufficient props is Naomi Watts. I think Janey-E was a very hard character to play well -- it was a balancing act to make her reactions to Dougie "believable" (at least within the zany context of that world) -- and Watts did a great job.
(I also just realized: we never got an explanation for how Dougie's ring ended up where it ended up, did we? [Not the Owl Ring, the engraved ring from Janey-E.])

On a personal note, wherever he is, I hope Fletch got to watch this.

Some good information, but, man, the numerous grammatical errors were frustrating. In case anyone was curious, DSLR cameras can have a rolling
shutter problem, not a "rolling shudder" problem.

In an Italian newspaper interview, Sherilyn Fenn apparently confirmed she found Lynch's original plans for Audrey too upsetting, and the storyline was changed at her request.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what is the "Sylvia scene" that people are mentioning in response to this?

The one where Richard breaks into Sylvia's house, steals her stuff, and chokes her. Like maybe it would have been Audrey there instead?

I think that's right and evidently Lara Flynn Boyle was asked back and declined and her part quite possibly went to Alicia Witt.

But Witt played her sister in the original series?

What "John Cope" is getting at is that it's possible that the character of Donna (played by Laura Flynn Boyle) would have been the one having an affair with Steven. When Boyle refused to participate, the affair was rewritten to occur between Steven and Donna's sister Gersten (portrayed by Alicia Witt). A much better choice in my opinion. In another example of Lynch remaining loyal to his company of actors, I had forgotten until a recent re-watch of
Dune that Alicia Witt made her film debut (age 9) playing the sister of Kyle MacLachlan's "Paul Atreides" in the Frank Herbert adaptation.

I have to think Donna would have had a more significant role than that. Witt's cameo was in line with her minor part in the original series.

Witt's character in 2017 is named Gersten Hayward, same as it was in 1990.

Has anyone suggested otherwise?

My bad, reading that over again I didn't quite get what was being discussed, that Donna could have been in Gersten's place. Between that and Audrey potentially being nearly killed by her own son would have been pretty upsetting (not that the end result wasn't less upsetting in the first place). I'd imagine that could have given a lot more for the Ben Horne character too (and possibly the Beverly character as well, on the face of it it does seem quite odd that Ashley Judd was cast and didn't end up doing a whole lot), a more vivid representation of the boomerang effect of his earlier misdeeds in life being taken out on his daughters. As it was, you could see that he'd become kind of a broken man anyway, when he's talking about his grandson with Truman.

Since finding out that was on Fox, I've wondered what would have happened if Twin Peaks was with them instead of ABC, if Lynch would have run into the same problems he did at such an established network.
