I predict Apu Trilogy much sooner than November 2014. At least I hope so. If I had to hazard a guess... oh, March 2014.

December 2015, with the Rossellini/Bergman set!
Limite was a film Criterion by name announced at the Wexner interview last fall when asked about upcoming releases. 2 and 1/2 years from now I doubt, expecting it this year.

It was? I don't recall that being mentioned
here.

So rewatching that I noticed they say a "select number" of WCF titles will be released. Other than Limite and A Brighter Summer Day being confirmed, Touki Bouki seems like a guarantee. The Housemaid as well. Other than that I'm not familiar with the other films. They may have just been naming some films WCF has done, but they mention "the Egyptian film" (either The Night of Counting Years or The Eloquent Peasant) and Kalpana specifically. I'm sure if only a few get disc releases (which would be incredibly aggravating) the rest will appear on Hulu sooner or later

^ Most of the WCF restored films have phantom pages up for the filmmakers on Criterion's site for what it's worth.

This would be one strange BLU upgrade...I have to hope this one will be paired with another Altman, preferably the criminally under seen Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, which we know Mark Patton recorded an audio commentary for. Always thought that one would be paired with the eventual release of Nashville (which my inside source suggests is in the works, but a release date is far off,) but two of his 80s stage adaptations together makes much more sense.

Seems strange though to not use Philip Baker Hall. Why create art using actual Nixon for this movie? Seems like for something else.

Well, we're not seeing the full image- real Nixon could be reflected images of Hall-as-Nixon or something. They put a bunch of footage of actual Nixon speeches on the disc, so it's not like they're avoiding the real guy.

Sam Smith does a lot of other work besides what he does for Criterion. It could be a poster for The Belcourt, something for his own amusement, or something else entirely. The tweet says only "#workinprogress #wip #nixon
http://instagram.com/p/Z3fso_HCjZ/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; " If it
is for Criterion, I agree that it's far more likely to be for a Nixon documentary than for
Secret Honor.

Yeah, as to Altman I'd rather see something like HEALTH which hasn't really ever had any kind of release...

Could be a poster for "Our Nixon".
Plus why would they be making new art for an upgrade?

It would be great if it meant Shampoo though building a poster/cover art around that connection seems unlikely.

Why not? They've done it plenty of times before.

Only when they do a complete overhaul, right? What could they possibly add?

They've also done it when they were licensing from a new company or using a new transfer.

No. They released My Life as a Dog and Naked on blu with new covers without any change to the existing DVDs.

this is what i'd bet on too. Rossellini/Bergman and Wenders this fall/winter and then Apu very soon after.
Secret Honor bluray would be incredibly bizarre. i'd imagine they would do Short Cuts first if anything.

No one's mentioned that the Nixon image might possibly be for Emile de Antonio's Millhouse: A White Comedy or maybe a Criterion edition of the OOP de Antonio "Films of a Radical Saint" box set put out by HVE. I can't really imagine that was ever a hot seller, though, and I think this image is more likely for something unrelated to Criterion.

That’s what I was gonna ask, since they’re all from different companies. Is there a way of doing that once this one hits home video?
LINKLATER: I think they can work that out. Yeah, hopefully.
