Aw man, everyone else got to see the list and I have to wait. This is literally the worst thing that's ever happened to anybody.

The number two pick was Yo Momma, which is either an upset or a disappointment, depending

UGH why must people reify the canon instead of trying something new once in a while

Funny you use that joke considering what number one was.

Well, can you really say Terror of Tiny Town didn't deserve it?

Let me guess: somebody hacked the site so they could stuff the top ten with Nazi-era German films.

Don't you talk about my mother that way!

Not a bad idea, actually. Or some Stalin era films. Just because both "Olympia" and "Alexander Nevsky" apparently dwindled into oblivion. Pretty surprising, I must say.

If someone has the results, could you pm them to me? This is seriously driving me crazy.

I can remember some of the rankings-- the Rules of the Game was #1, Bringing Up Baby was #2, Scarlet Empress and Shanghai Express were 7 & 8. The 39 Steps was 16 or 17. Twentieth Century was 50.

Maybe between us all we can piece this thing together!

Wow, that's a huge gain for Shanghai Express, isn't it? Pretty impressive, since it's still not even available in region 1.

I wound up voting for von Sternberg more than anyone else, so I'm glad to know he did well overall- I'm interested to see where if anywhere The Blue Angel showed up this time through, as it seems like one that will drop and drop as people see and compare it to more of his other work.

I think that one wound up as an also ran. I do remember Vampyr had 600 points.

Seriously though, I was concerned after posting the results that all the fancy coding I'd used might have broken the internet. It doesn't look like that was the case, but I'm still waiting for Chris to say it's OK before restoring the posts. In the meantime...

EDIT: See Saturnome's screencaps below.

Yes! Someone else voted for Safe in Hell.

Me! I admittedly went a bit Wellman-crazy with five, but my favourite, Wild Boys of the Road, still went orphaned.

Scarlet Empress was my no. 1, but I didn't expect it to be so high on the tally. Shanghai Express and Blue Angel also made my list.

Considering he made about fifteen over the decade if you're a fan I'm sure that should be considered small.

Imagine if vote splitting hadn't occurred to Naruse, sigh. I guess to those who haven't seen him you know what to go after at least.

Wow, I can't believe Mad Love finished out of the money- it's definitely the only one out of my top ten that didn't make it.

You can definitely see a direct connection between how much something was discussed and its movement in the list, though- that's a really nice thought, that people were reading and paying attention to the thread and not just going by whatever they'd thought coming in.

You're right at that. I actually feel The Public Enemy isn't even his third-best film of 1931, so it's disappointing to see it place so far ahead of Other Men's Women, Safe in Hell, and Wild Boys (which, as mentioned, didn't place at all)

EDIT: Granted, I obviously should have made an effort towards defending my favourites pre-deadline, so my bitching is invalid

I bet if you put all the WC Fields vehicles together he'd make a respectable showing- they're all over the place in the orphans and also rans, but I didn't see one in the actual list.

I came very close to voting for Man on the Flying Trapeze but it just missed out. Rest assured Never Give a Sucker an Even Break will be very high in my 40s list, maybe top 15.
