For those who may be revisiting the
Eno documentary each month to see a different iteration (the documentary was designed to be continually mutable via a specially-designed non-AI software program and The Criterion Channel streams a different version every month)...
That non-AI generative software program appears to be following a formula when presenting the
Eno documentary where the major deviations from previous iterations all appear in the film's second half. This is true of the new September version where, apart from a brief previously unseen interview clip appearing near the beginning, the first half of the doc presents the same content in roughly the same order as seen in the August version (as well as the June and July versions). However, starting at the 44 minute mark, we're treated to almost entirely new segments; approximately 30 minutes of previously unseen footage. The new material includes a funny sequence where Eno is asked to recite his own quotes given to the press years earlier, a lovely live performance at the Acropolis, and a discussion concerning Eno's disapproval of being a specialist (with surprise B-roll clips of
Hard To Be A God,
Andrei Rublev, and other films) that is so on-point for the artist that it seems like it should be the centerpiece for every iteration of the documentary.

I wonder if they could've uploaded a newer recently restored version with this month’s Duvivier restropective
They could've but they didn't.

Thanks Matt. Disappointing because it probably means don’t expect an upgrade soon

The info page for "Flow" shows a 5.1 designation but playback on my Apple 4K TV is only coming through in 2.0. Has anyone been able to play it in surround?

Is anyone else annoyed with the changes to the interface?
I used to be able to do a search for a film’s year (“2006”) to bring up all the films that were released in that year, but it doesn’t work anymore. Now I’ll get random results with all movies on the channel from the 2000s despite entering a specific year. Furthermore, fewer frames post the actual year, so for many of the top results you don’t have any idea on the year unless you click on the frame. This is true for either the Roku app or using a browser on my ipad.
Another change is that I only see a film’s length for the top two rows of any selected category (my list, leaving soon, etc.). I often decide on films based on their time so this is also annoying.
An overhaul of the channel’s interface would also be welcomed to make things easier to find/explore.

Criterion Channel maxes out at 2.0 (which will give some (random) support for surround sound if the soundtrack that is streaming supports it). Dolby Surround setting (per my receiver) allows that pretty lame version of surround sound to play if it's there. I don't see Flow, but I just tried it out on The Doors and that had my surround speakers playing, but it is not DD 5.1.
Similarly, the channel maxes out at HD, not 4K.
Perhaps some day the channel will adopt 21st century technologies.

The difference with "Flow" is that the Criterion info page has a "5.1" showing on the page, first time I've seen anything like that, so I was hoping for a discrete 5.1. Yet on my system, I get only the normal 2.0 (perhaps encoded as Dolby Surround).

Click on the "Flow" tile in the app, as you would to play the movie, and when it brings up the info page, with the year, the director, the cast, and any extras, there is a "5.1" in the upper left corner below the title (at least in the Apple TV app).

The other day I "searched" for Flow in the app and nothing came up (except for some extra), but I'll give it another look this time for the tile…
But on the other hand, it's (also)
here just under Show more…
Puzzling… I'll give it a look next day or two.

The only way I could get anything to come out of the rear speakers with Flow was what I described earlier, Dolby Surround setting on my receiver (and the Automatic setting on the Apple TV 4K), but it was a pretty weak signal so not sure how well that mimics what's on the disc releases. Everything other setting I tried just provided stereo.

By Hook or By Crook! I still haven't watched the dvd double feature so I'm happy they have Serpent’s Path and Eyes of the Spider in the programming.

Probably their most horror-laden October ever & not just repeating the same familiar titles they've already had on (though there are a few). Nice to see multiple horror themes that are not dominated by the standard franchises. On the flipside, their recent restorations of cinema classics seems to drop this month. The Kiyoshi Kurosawa theme probably has the most previously featured titles, but not a bad move to collect them for Halloween. Guess I'm looking forward most to finally seeing Mike De Leon's films, though too bad they don't also have Moments In A Stolen Dream & Sister Stella L.
Also interesting to note that they're identifying who has curated the theme for some...or is it just my first time seeing this?

And the return of To the Ends of the Earth! I really wish this would surface on an English-subtitled bluray.
I've only seen a backchannel copy of Door III (and don't remember much about it); curious to see what kind of quality it is.

Terror in Resonance? I know it's Shinichirou Watanabe but, wow, I never expected that on the Channel.

The Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa looks spectacular! Also I'm morbidly curious about Hustler White, especially since I read
critic Will Sloan's review on Letterboxd, NSFW.

I didn't watch any of it, so I can't comment on rhw quality but Door III opens with the Criterion and Janus logos.
The TCM podcast about Kubrick is on the Channel. I know Criterion co-produced this season, but I don't recall seeing that it would also be on the Channel.

Per the channel, Criterion and Janus finally picked up Party Girl after streaming it every other month from Radial, parent company of Shout and FilmRise. Plus, Don't Look Now from StudioCanal.

Party Girl is interesting, given who owns it and, I guess, this means that Criterion can possibly pick up Morvern Callar

I kinda figured Criterion would nab Party Girl after the FCE went oop.

Has anything been announced about a physical release of Party Girl, or is this just a streaming rights change for now? Those are quite different reasons to get excited.

I assume this happened whenever it returned to the Channel, but I noticed tonight that Terence Nance's An Oversimplification of Her Beauty now opens with the Criterion and Janus logos.

Where should I start with Kiyoshi Kurosawa? I’ve seen Cure, Cloud, Chime, and Serpent’s Path. I own the DVD for Bright Future.
I wanna dive deeper.
