It was passed uncut in 2002.

If I remember correctly, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid can't be released uncut in the UK on account of animal cruelty issues.

Some Oshima could be logical since the restorations are available, but I'm not sure if the rights are currently free in the UK (maybe MoC have more than just Cruel Story of Youth).

Anyone know if the English subtitles are optional on the Arrow Blu-ray of Generation War? Can only find one review of this disc and it is not mentioned.

Isn't the upcoming Kobayashi set in the 'same vein' as Yoshida? I imagine it will have the same layout and is already listed for a similar price...

Will this be an ongoing thing I wonder? Assuming sales will continue to be healthy of course.

Teshigahara is probably my most-wanted box set, assuming Eureka or BFI aren't interested. Pitfall, Woman of the Dunes and The Face of Another, and any others if they're available.

More Oshima would be grand. I assume Yume Pictures' licenses have expired because MoC release Cruel Story of Youth last year (which they previously released). We know there's a suitable master of Death By Hanging already, as Criterion have only just released it...so that could show up in a box set (unless MoC get hold of it first).

Other than being Japanese, no.

Terayama is the holy grail. A complete boxset with all films and shorts please.

Do we know if those films are upgradable? No mention of Blu-ray releases for any of them in other regions.

There's more : Carlotta also released on BD Boy and The Ceremony. I believe the other movies released in the set on DVD are also taken from new HD restorations.

i am pretty sure that a member has asked about a JISSOJI box some time ago via twitter and the answer from Arrow was "it's possible" so i won't give up my hope...
a blu-ray box is now released in japan so HD material is available

Terayama is much more likely than Jissoji, but it's probably Wakamatsu since I recently bought two French sets of his films!

Wakamatsu would have a big crossover with Arrow's other demographic as well. With the emphasis on 'graphic'. Terayama too, but he's an extremely hot potato, and the censorship issues with something like Emperor Tomato Ketchup might be insurmountable.

I'm hoping for those ATG Oshimas, the perverse melodramas Yoshida made in and around the titles already released, or an ATG box that can encompass lesser known masters like Hani or Jissoji.

Since they've already done Cruel Story of Youth, I'm hoping MoC will handle the ATG Oshimas (and hopefully do just as good a job with contextualizing extras as Arrow would) - especially since Death By Hanging is already coming from Criterion, and I see no reason that more of these won't be coming from them in the hopefully not-too-distant future. This would leave Arrow, if they so chose, to focus on introducing more Japanese masters previously entirely neglected on English-friendly western home video.

My vote would go to Terayama as well. There's a Japanese Blu-ray boxset (unsubbed of course) containing his features Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets, Pastoral: to Die in the Country, and Farewell to the Ark, and all of them look drop-dead gorgeous. As with Yoshida, feature-wise I think these three would be adequate for a set designed to introduce him to English-speaking audiences, but hopefully at least a handful of his shorts could be added as well.

That said, a set of Yoshida's late sixties "anti-melodramas" would be near the top of my list as well. I think in their own way these films are just as interesting and worthy of attention as the better known ones in the existing set.

If they do Terayama, I certainly hope they make room for his first short The Cage.

Also, "Emperor Tomato Ketchup" reminds me of "Godspeed You Black Emperor," which reminds me that some Yanagimachi would be wonderful.
