I hadn't seen it as well. I was better off.
Pretty disturbing cover. I'm glad they realized it this time. White Dog wasn't as lucky, although the official cover isn't really bad, it's just not as good as the old one.
But this one...

Great to see Stephen King in the collection.
Just kidding, I think it's a great cover, and I agree with the general consesus here that April is one of the best months of late for artwork. And thank you, Criterion, for restoring the original Painleve cover!

Just to clarify for the latecomers, Klaylock's cover on the last page was not the updated cover, but a nice skewering of the actual one, where 18 seahorses spelled out a large sideways number 23.

If I had noticed the dropshadows they probably wouldn't have got me. I didn't know Criterion were allowed to do jokes. Should have known better after having seen the new
contact us page.

They can do jokes like that on the Contact Us page.
But a DVD cover joke is only amusing once.
Whereas a single seahorse is timeless.

I was strolling about and I saw this... thing.
All of a sudden, I wondered: could this be why they thought of scrapping the Painlevé cover we all know and love?
See, there is this TV show called Fringe and apparently they rely heavily on the profile image of a seahorse as part of their ad campaigns and branding.
Nah.
That would be silly.

I'll give you good odds that they'll use the excellent Rialto poster's artwork

Oh, THIS:
Initially, I thought you were referring to this:

No complaints from the North of Scotland. Austerity is good.

Criterion really went all out (*cough*) with the inside cover art on Simon of the Desert.

Fab! Having paid homage to the Modern Library Classics with the Rohmer box, I suppose it was only a matter of time before Criterion gave Penguin a nod.

Fun use of a typeface's width expansion, rather than just varying the weight. A similar font can be found here:
Hannah, which is obviously an homage to the work of Pablo Ferro, the artist behind the opening sequence of
Dr. Strangelove, among others.

Here's hoping they don't go switching the Wise Blood cover.

The Wise Blood and the Imamura cover look really good!
But again no Marienbad and Human Condition trilogy though...

3 Films by Shohei Imamura box = 8/10
Wise Blood = 10/10
The Friends of Eddie Coyle = 5/10

Great covers. It's good to have assurance that Criterion is definitely back into the game and last month's were not a fluke

Another great month. I will be preordering everything except the Ran Blu-Ray release (have the movie on Laserdisc....didn't really like it.)
