8 1/2 added an extra without the DVD being reissued.

Fanny and Alexander got rid of the introductions, and the DVD wasn't upgraded.

I really hope we get a new cover (ala Naked, Umberto D). hopefully based off this poster: http://mubi.com/notebook/posts/movie-po ... d-for-love" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it also appears they're using an all new transfer for this too. it's gonna look fantastic.

M added the entire English language version of the movie, though that makes sense as a BD only extra. I wish they'd added a whole commentary with Rayns, the one he did on Chungking Express was excellent.

Thanks for the corrections, folks. Shows how well I've been paying attention. I guess this is still the first release where the DVD and BD editions each have extras not on the other edition.

Naked got a different cover for the BD, but the extras are identical on the DVD and BD editions.

you're good.

I too was disappointed at no Rayns commentary (why not include Wong ala the Yi Yi commentary with Yang?) but as long as the interviews are lengthy and Wong gets the Grandmasters out there in time, I'm okay with this.

Criterion jumped the gun on the announcements, and we now know that Rosemary's Baby and Sunday Bloody Sunday are coming.

I'm assuming the Albanian film is Joshua Marston's "The Forgiveness of Blood."

Criterion never announced a single boxed set would be released "this year." We just happen to know that they have the rights to several, and speculated that they would happen this year. I had heard July for the Wenders set, but all of this would be filed under rumor.

New Years newsletter clues are just rumors?

Yes, circumstances are always changing. All the clues are rumors until the releases hit your doorstep.

Forgiveness of Blood is a film I've been meaning to see. I did see Maria Full of Grace which I thought was excellent. Joshua Marston is quite talented. I'm certainly interested. These are the kind of IFC releases that I'm happy to see.

What are you referring to? I suppose the Samuai Trilogy and Czech Eclipse could be considered boxed sets, but those were released. I once guessed the car transport vehicle was for Wenders, but it turned out to be La Promesse.

The Cars/Wenders and Bow/Pasolini or could that be for something else too?

I suppose one might also reference the desk photo with all the paperwork, which revealed The Koker Trilogy (and maybe others?) as a planned set, but I don't remember that having a set date on it for release.

It does seem as though the actual number of releases every month has gone down a bit.

I was probably wrong about the cars (though I have heard that four titles are coming, and they've obviously been delayed). I don't think the bow was ever definitively linked to anything, though the Pasolinis seemed as good of guess as any. Of course either set could still make it in November or December.

I think that someone on Mubi had said that Criterion were going to release the Wenders road trilogy in June and a Chris Marker Eclipse set in the near future but I wouldn't be surprised if he was full of bull.

It could very well be that they intended to release the Wenders set this year but once Wenders got financing for his nex movie "Everything Will be Fine" which is currently in production, it delayed things. Like most active directors Criterion works with. (Cronos, The Game, Following, Y Tu Mama Tambien, etc.)

did anybody realize we may have gotten the New Year's clues wrong?

just like the Nanook/Letter Never Sent or Anatomy/Kurosawa newsletter one.

Also, what did that Wenders article say about the 4 films that Criterion will release? I can see a boxset in November, but those Newsletter clues have been delayed before (Wild Strawberries have been on how many, 2?).

Yeah, but that could just be that the number of upgrades is going down, since they have already upgraded many of their big titles.

I'll just be frank, I couldn't care less about the new IFC releases. Criterion is the company I go to for repertory cinema selections. I just hope that they are not sidelining other long rumored titles for these. Doing some math, I collect appox 1/4th of the blu-ray releases. For the months of July, Aug, Sep, I can see only buying 1/17. For October I might upgrade In the Mood for Love.... needless to say I'm a little underwhelmed.

There's a thread for you!

Also, you may want to check out Hulu Plus, as there are hundreds of titles that haven't gotten disc releases [yet] that you may enjoy.
