I thought I was the only one! I like the drawings themselves, but the color palette reminds me of an Arrow exploitation movie as well.

Not keen on the colour on the To Sleep with Anger cover as well.

All the covers are fantastic, though in addition to stark Bardot and the montage of To Sleep With Anger (I am just happy that the trumpeter got in there!), I particularly love Death In Venice's sickly green hued, streaky bust of Tadzio!

In the novel, as soon as Von Aschenbach sets eyes on Tadzio, he associates him with "Greek statuary of the noblest period."
The cover is very connected with the deep meaning of the story. The illustrator really did the job

The yellow type inside the Some Like It Hot packaging is leftover from the original design I believe but it looks strange it is not the orange-red like on the cover. Wouldn’t you agree?

To make room for this set, I took off the Ford at Fox set from the shelf. That set was unglued at the spine, and discs don't sit well in the buttons provided - an example of how not to do things. The Criterion, by contrast, is a thing of beauty. The design and construction are excellent. Discs are easy to remove and reinsert. I only wish the book was hardcover instead of paperback.

A question about the book : does it retain the content of the individual booklets for the titles already released ? Some of the movies are not getting new restorations and are pretty much the older discs with new menus. If the booklets contents are also retained, I could make some space and get rid of the individual releases, but so far, I haven't been able to find out the exact book content (which is logical, time-wise, but still).

Just take photos or use a scanner app on your phone for the booklets if not, I can't imagine holding onto the entire release for the booklet content alone

I thought about this and will probably end up doing this if required. In the worst case, I've ordered the set on Amazon and will be able to check by myself, but I was just curious.

My Magnificent Ambersons arrived today (a day too early). The digipack is thinner than I thought it would be (was probably thinking of the dual format days), but it looks nice.

Just chiming in to be the millionth person to say that the Bergman box is just spectacular in person. Amazon shipped it in a box (the original box it was sent to Amazon from the manufacturer in) within an Amazon box, so it was in flawless condition, and it's just such a jewel to behold. Has an excellent tactile feel to it, the book is more substantial than I could have imagined (they could have sold that for about half the price of this set and it would have moved copies), and the layout of the disc set could use a bit more of an artistic flourish in my opinion (imagine if there was disc art, say) but it's functional and the sleeves are well-designed without compromising the discs or putting them in harm's way. What an incredible bargain this thing is at 50% off, or even at full price, really.

Unfortunately, my set has its spine slightly creased on the bottom over about 1 cm, but I can't agree more. It's a MASSIVE boxset that just has a wonderful feel. Of course, one can argue about the non chronological over-convoluted disc-split or the sleeves, but it won't bother me much in the end.

But this is a set that reminds me (and embodies quite well) what Josh Katz said about physical format : "Like vinyls or hardbacked books, a Blu-ray collection makes a statement that is, in its own way, quietly political.
