From the 2026 Calendar.

The Crowd (1928), restored by Blackhawk Films (Same folks that restored He Who Gets Slapped).

Lewis Milestone's Two Arabian Knights (1927) + The Racket (1928), both have been restored by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Will be released in a double-feature called "Howard Hughes in Hollywood Vol. 1".

We also have more details on the Flicker Fusion release of "Focus on Clara Bow", which we found out that it'll be a two-disc set. First two-disc Flicker Fusion set, that and I'm also happy to say, Bow is WAY more present in these films than Brooks was in her "Focus On" films.

The Pill Pounder (1923) - 14 Min
Black Lightning (1924) - 93 Min
The Primrose Path (1925) - 65 Min
Dancing Mothers (1926) - 65 Min
Hula (1927) - 64 Min
Just for kicks once again, Hula Trailer (1927) - 1 Min
They also made mention of their Méliès: Tales of the Macabre (1896-1911) Set, all of the films have been restored by Blackhawk films and are BD Premieres. Also made a mention that the set is "Arriving in time for Halloween".

We're also getting a Re-Issue (Much like the Essanay Comedies) of Flicker Alley's Chaplin's Mutual Comedies (1916-1917) Set.

Now, in my opinion, the most exciting of the announcements, and I'm just going to quote FA directly.

"A PAGE OF MADNESS (1926) - Just in time for it centennial, Teinosuke Kinugasa experimental tale of terror joins The Art of Benshi, a deluxe set of Bemshi films published with the generous support of The Yanai Initiative, and featuring new restorations by the Nihon Eiga Broadcasting Company and the National Film Archive of Japan."

Also, looking through the calendar, while these could mean nothing, I found it interesting that it made mention to the release dates of both The Black Pirate (1926) and Sunrise (1927). Could they be releasing the MoMA restoration of The Black Pirate (1926) and a potential new restoration of Sunrise (1927)? I hope so. Sunrise would be perfect for next year and could use a new restoration, especially seeing we know the film was in fact originally tinted.


For my Noir Fans, the calendar mentioned the Technicolor Noir, Slightly Scarlet (1956).

Lastly, the calendar made mention of Baby Peggy's Birthday, which the SFFP restored three short films starring her, those being, A Muddy Bride (1921), The Kid Reporter (1923), and Peg o' the Mounted (1924).

The Crowd is one of my holy grails for a DVD/BD release. Unfortunate it took until it went public domain to happen, but very glad I'm here for it

This is an incredible line up. So happy The Crowd is getting love since I don’t even remember there being a DVD release. Hoping that they will do Sunrise and maybe Greed considering they did two other Von Stroheims.

Great disc, seems to be sourced from the same element utilized by Turner for the laserdisc (and later Warner Archive DVD) except the Flicker Alley Blu has an actual score. The Turner master had the canned library music score put together in the 60s.

Flicker Alley’s ‘Art of Benshi’ Boxset will include, at least, Kinugasa’s A Page of Madness (1926), Mizoguchi’s The Water Magician (1933), Futagawa’s Orochi/Serpent (1925).

Which films are these and how are on the big FA Méliès from circa 2007?

"Experience the spooky side of French illusionist and pioneer Georges Méliès with Méliès: Tales of the Macabre, a new omnibus from the Blackhawk Films Collection, featuring HD transfers available on Blu-ray for the first time from Flicker Alley, in partnership with FPA Classics." No information about what the films are that I’ve found, it would be worth looking into FPA and Blackhawk’s websites, screening schedules and social media to see if there are any hints there.

I understand the Macabre set features also in the 2026 calendar. FA released most of the titles in the 2025 one but they are known for sometimes over promising so hopefully they deliver!

Seemingly the best ones are with WB unsurprisingly and unfortunately. But Blackhawk Films/FPA I believe are using their own materials for The Crowd so hopefully they do as good a job as they did for HE Who Gets Slapped.

All of this is frustrating in a way as it feels like George Feltenstein was bread crumbing silent fans for years whenever he was asked about these silents by saying that something was definitely in the works. Clearly that’s not true at all, unless Criterion got their hands on a few of them years back then did nothing with them aside from the Brownings… which feels unlikely.

So yeah thank the gods for public domain laws. Hopefully The Wind won’t be a million years away.

I guess I'll say this, I think there may be competing releases of The Crowd. I was just wondering if good enough elements exists for one of them to be a UHD (which would make me be willing to bet money that there will be a competing release.)

Another factor (at least for me) with regard to The Crowd is the Carl Davis score from the VHS days. I'm assuming that if anyone has retained the rights to that it's Warner.

The Crowd will be screening during the Hippfest in Bo’Ness, Scotland next month. With a live piano score rather than the Davis one. But the materials are courtesy of WB and Park Circus.

So now dwk has me wondering if he’s implying a UK release… and which boutiques have relationships with Park Circus these days…

But yes, totally agree really hope whoever releases it can include the Davis score!
