The more I see that Pierre Etaix cover the less I like it.
That inside digi cover design is quite nice though.

Any spine pics available for the Pierre Etaix set would be greatly appreciated! I am new to the forum but have been lurking the place for quiet some time now and frequent other forums a lot. New username but some might recognize me as Darkcritic in other forums. Finally, I know I shouldn't introduce myself by requesting stuff! Bad move but I am curious and thought it was a good time to finally start posting here.

Yeah the Etaix seems all over the place in terms of design, but I really like that inside cover. Not sure of it would work as a front cover though

Now that I see the texture/chalki-ness of the Etaix cover, I actually quite like it. That's three digi-packs this year, after none last year?

There was at least Godzilla, as well as the three boxsets, unless you aren't counting those.

Forgot about Godzilla, but no I purposely didn't count the three box-sets.

Seems like when the booklet gets over a certain size (or over 2 discs) they have to go to the digibook...

Those are all pretty weak in my opinion.

Are these fake? The Babette's Feast one is hilariously awful fan art level
EDIT they're from Amazon-- oh lord, they're real

I'm not usually one to complain about cover art but....

They are not necessarily from amazon, as all cover images on Criterion's website use this sort of url. But they are indeed in line with the url format.

Yes, yes, yes. Didn't realize an upgrade of The Ice Storm was around the corner, and it still has perhaps the best cover in the collection.

That Devil's Backbone cover is a bit like putting The Statue of Liberty on the cover of Planet of the Apes.
Lord of the Flies is brilliant.

The Devil's Backbone reminds me of Batman: The Animated Series.

Can I talk more about the Ice Storm cover for a sec? Not only does it say it all about the film without having seen it; but if you have seen it, it speaks volumes to its most tragic moment. If someone hasn't seen the film, they see ice built up against a reflective surface, a mysterious abstraction of something potentially urgent, and a red, white and blue blend of colors that suggest that the film is a window into a harsh American winter, both literally and figuratively. And the film is all those things and more! It's such a great cover, guys, I'm glad I get to gawk at it for the next few months every time I go on the Criterion site.

I think it goes pretty well with
Cronos though.

There isn't a cover out there that's amazing enough to conceal the fact that they're Guillermo Del Toro films.

Love the Lord of the Flies and the life of Oharu covers.

I really like the Devil's Backbone and Lord of the Flies covers, and I'm pretty sure I'll like Life of Oharu in person, but Babette's Feast is worse than awful- it's boring, and doesn't really seem to have been trying for anything. It looks like a so-so fan cover, for maybe one the IFC titles that nobody's too excited about, and does nothing to evince the sensuality that defines the movie.

absolutely! it's one of the very best covers in the collection, one that just captures the most sublime moment in the film perfectly. it's so subtle and so brilliant
I can't think of a single other cover that does this. Close-Up is very close, though.
