Me too. The player that came with my BD-drive is even less user friendly than MPC, though I'm sure there'd be a way to play it all with VLC if I did the research.

What is Luckard referring to when he says people dislike VLC player (as opposed to Media Player Classic)?
Specifically for taking screenshots. VLC has a reputation for taking inaccurate screencaps, though I only know that because certain places do not allow it to be the source of screencaps.

I just wish I could get the hack working that allows Blu-rays to be played on VLC. (But I guess that’s a question to the “Technical Issues” topic.)
If it's any consolation, I have set it up and still I've never had very much luck at getting it to play BDs. It's far easier to rip the contents of the disc and play the files back.

More captures from James, so no need to link to Atanasov's review.

It's interesting he has issues finding the exact frame through MPC, you can go frame by frame simply by using CTRL + the left (to go back frame by frame) or right (to go forward) arrow.

Certain scenes I could’ve easily been tricked that this wasn’t restored in 4k - the color and detail on Stack’s car for instance are really something and there’s one close up of Bacall that is just stunning. Probably their best looking color BD since Local Hero. The grain/encoding/whatever looks better than usual too, even their best looking transfers suffer if you go grain peeping - like some scenes in Tootsie when the camera pans it just gets ugly with weird patterns - none of it here. As for the movie what a blast, that cast is amazing and the way Sirk can seemingly do anything as a director is on full display.

Indeed, judging from the screencaps this looks well encoded. I rarely see the typical Criterion/Pixelogic artifacts here, or at least they're somewhat toned down. If only every Criterion encode looked this nice...
Also, this is one of the nicest 2K restorations I've seen recently. Heaps of detail. Even some aliasing on the fence in screencap 7.
