As I recall the discussion (I'm being too lazy to search for and link to the actual thread), someone had claimed that It Always Rains On Sunday was definitely not being released by Criterion.

Why does the poster have the Studio Canal logo at the bottom? Does that mean they have the rights? If so, aw crap.

Canal worked on the restoration, as they have European rights, so that's the most likely reason as to why they're credited. Pretty Pictures has the US rights.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Claude Sautet's Max et les ferrailleurs is opening theatrically in the US on Aug 10th, in a new 35mm restoration. Wouldn't miss that retrospective either if I was in the area.

I certainly wouldn't mind a Criterion release of that new restoration - it's nothing short of a chef-d'œuvre, with a brilliant performance from Piccoli, and (as far as I know) never been available on English-friendly DVD. Here's hoping!

I could be wrong, but I think Criterion's relationship with Rialto is pretty much over. Rialto is StudioCanal's distribution partner in the US, but nearly all of the US home video rights are with Lionsgate.

Oh right, I didn't realize that... Probably just have to hope for an Optimum/Lionsgate DVD then! Either way it's a terrific film - sure hope someone will do something with it...

Apparently the new Total Recall BD looks spectacular. The transfer is taken from the camera negative and supervised by Verhoeven. And it's currently under $10 at Amazon.

But yeah, remember when Criterion used to put out movies like this? I still have my Robocop DVD even though, being non-anamorphic SD, it's nigh unwatchable at this point.

Twilight Time had previously indicated they had the choice to release it through their MGM deal, but were declining to at the time because the transfer they would have been provided was too poor. Don't know if they will still have the option of releasing it at this point, or whether they'll have access to the new restoration.

According to IMDB, Rialto has all media rights in US. I can't see Rialto doing business with TT.
