Re: IMDb missing entries
Thanks again, sienel! It looks like those Lumière films you submitted have made it onto the site now. Let me know if there's anything I can do with all of the other titles I mentioned, presenting them differently or whatever, that would help make things easier for you to submit them.

Re: IMDb missing entries
I've updated my post above with the links to the titles that were added today.
A note on the Korean films: the IMDb's transliteration of choice is here. I've tried to at least submit the titles using that system which is why there's some differences in what was posted in this thread and what I added to the IMDb. This was my first attempt at this though - hopefully I didn't screw anything up too badly.
Re: the Lumière films - it's slow-going as I'm trying to find at least a few links for each. The IMDb has a pre-screening system that a title submission has to pass through before human eyes ever have a chance to approve or reject, and including sites that reference the title help it get through that first step. So I'm tracking down Google Books sites, listings of Lumière films like the one jorozko posted, pages on database sites, etc for each.
Submitted May 5:
12 Baignade de nègres
25 Concours de bébés
31 Danse Tyrolienne
53 Jongleur javanais
266 Danse au bivouac
[links added May 27]

Re: IMDb missing entries
Sienel, it looks like this one might have been overlooked, or at least I can't find it. Using the imdb-preferred transliteration tool, it would be Ga-byeo-un Jam. Can you please check this one for me?
By the way, the transliteration of this one:
should be Choi-gang lo-maen-seu, not Choi-ga lo-maen-seu as it appears in imdb. The parabolic character in that second syllable acts as an -ng when it is in the bottom position; it is silent only when it is the first character in a syllable. (The transliteration tool supports this.)sienel wrote: The All-Powerful Romance (최강 로맨스, Choi-kang Ro-maen-seu)
Thanks for your invaluable assistance with this stuff.

Re: IMDb missing entries
There are a couple of missing films by Armand Guerra:
Le Vieux Docker / The Old Docker
Les Misères de l’aiguille
These were shot in 1913 but released in 1914. I have read that the first one has been located but I'm not sure about the second one. The second one starred Musidora in the lead role.
Here are a few links which give some more information if that will help.
http://www.katesharpleylibrary.net/9s4nhh" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://recollectionbooks.com/bleed/Ency ... Armand.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://books.google.com/books?id=gIbE3j ... &q&f=false" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Of the Google book, pages 1-15 deal with Guerra.
Please let me know if you need any more information and I will turn up what I can. Thanks in advance.

Re: IMDb missing entries
David Threlfall isn't listed for his appearance in the original TV version of Alan Clarke's Scum despite playing one of the main parts (Archer). I've attempted to update his entry a few times - but never to any success.
Whilst I'm posting here, there also isn't a single Jeff Keen film listed or, indeed, an entry for the man himself.

re: Lumière - no need for screengrabs at this time. If I have trouble getting anything accepted then I may take you up on your offer. If that's an 'official' DVD release then it might help to have the DVD's distributor, release year, and country of origin.
re: 18 Les bronzes font du surf - This site and this book list Bocal aux poissons rouges as #18. Are you certain of your title?
re: Korean titles - I have A Light Sleep on my to-do list, just haven't gotten to it yet. I sent in the spelling correction for The All-Powerful Romance a couple days ago and it looks like it's been accepted - thanks.

Re: IMDb missing entries
sienel, first of all, many continued thanks for all of your efforts. Please let me know if you need me to take a break from posting in this thread.
In other news, I have like 50 Mitchell & Kenyon films from the BFI's In Ireland and Edwardian Sports DVDs ready to submit, but I really feel bad about inundating you with more titles. Should I just hold on to them for a while, or post them here and you can get to them when you get to them?
I believe it has only officially been released as a laserdisc, and in Japan. That's really all I know at this point, though if you need me to, I can try to delve a little further. Let me know.sienel wrote:If that's an 'official' DVD release then it might help to have the DVD's distributor, release year, and country of origin.
When I went through this set, I recall noticing that it actually separately presented both of these films as being catalog #18. It could take me a while to go through the whole thing again, find both of them amidst the hundreds of films, and verify that this is actually the case. I'm not sure if it's worth going through all that effort for just one title. This was the only instance I recall there being of two films being identified by the same catalog number.

Re: IMDb missing entries
Since so far I haven't had trouble getting the Lumière titles accepted I don't need the laserdisc info at this time. Once I get through the list (estimated date of completion: June 30th 2015
) if there are any I couldn't get in I might need you to dig up some info on that release.
I'm going to hold off on Les bronzes font du surf for the time being. Google doesn't find any sites (other than your original post) mentioning that title and the only Google Books reference I see doesn't allow previews so I can't tell exactly what it's saying - or if it's even about the film in question. Without any confirming links I don't have much hope that the IMDb will accept it.
Feel free to post the missing Mitchell & Kenyon titles (along with which set they came from) - just know that it'll be awhile before I get them all in.
Just as an aside: I really wish the BFI would include a listing of all the films included on their DVD set releases. It's very time-consuming searching for a review or an online store that actually mentions the film names. They didn't on their Mitchell & Kenyon sets and they didn't on their Jeff Keen set. I did eventually track down online DVD reviews and store listings that listed the individual films for all three sets, but I don't understand why the BFI doesn't feel that information is pertinent.
On my current list of to-dos:
~230 Lumière films
2 Armand Guerra / Cinéma du Peuple films
~45 Jeff Keen films
Scum cast update
~50 Mitchell & Kenyon films

Re: IMDb missing entries
sienel, all of the information is included in the attendant booklets. There's quite a number of missing IMDb titles amongst the films present on BFI discs. (Predominantly short films that have appeared on Flipside discs and similar releases, and a large number of documentaries.) Once I've got the chance I'll go through them and post all the info I can here.Just as an aside: I really wish the BFI would include a listing of all the films included on their DVD set releases. It's very time-consuming searching for a review or an online store that actually mentions the film names. They didn't on their Mitchell & Kenyon sets and they didn't on their Jeff Keen set. Re: IMDb missing entries
Sure, but the attendant booklets aren't available online so don't do much for me when I'm trying to submit information to the IMDb. What's really goofy is that they do spell out the extras - they just don't think the names of the individual films are important. But then Criterion sometimes does the exact same thing (though not always).antnield wrote:sienel, all of the information is included in the attendant booklets. Re: IMDb missing entries
They could possibly be backed up with the information on the BFI's own SIFT database, or their Screenonline entries where applicable. I can link to each of those when I post some of the titles here if that would help.

Re: IMDb missing entries
Is there any way to check the status of one's contributions? I added two Lotte Reiniger films (Cinderella, Primrose version and The Frog Prince, '61 version) and was wondering if there's a better method than waiting for an e-mail from the IMDb staff or looking at her page.

You can check the Processing Times page. Right now under the "New/alternate titles" section it saysjbaart wrote:Is there any way to check the status of one's contributions? So I know that any titles I submitted prior to May 19th should be online (or will be in a day or two) or were rejected. That page also gives you a heads-up if there are any pending delays in any department. At the moment, the oldest title in the system waiting for processing is from 19 May. Be aware that once a title is approved, it can take up to two days for that title to appear on the live site.
But with new titles I typically just wait a week to ten days then do a search for the title.

Re: IMDb missing entries
Thanks, that's better than nothing. I wonder though why they don't just add some kind of status icon to your update history. You can't even tell if your one year old contribution was accepted or not without checking the actual entry.

Re: IMDb missing entries
They say that since a single submission could be spread out amongst several IMDb workers (as they have separate people handling titles vs cast vs trivia vs directors vs companies vs camera/electric etc) and they're processing things on different schedules it makes it prohibitively difficult to do a status-sort of thing.jbaart wrote:Thanks, that's better than nothing. I used to maintain a massive spreadsheet documenting everything I submitted, going through it each week to check up on what had been accepted and what was still pending. Once it got to the point where I was spending more time checking up on things than I was spending submitting data (let alone watching actual movies) I decided not to bother. Now I only confirm that any new titles I send in have been added, and with any other data just cross my fingers and hope it gets accepted.
Amazingly though the new titles I sent in two days ago are already online.
