I received my copy from MoC a couple of days ago. I gave it a quick spin, and it seems indeed gorgeous. Hopefully, I'll be able to sit through it completely tomorrow.

Yes, it really is a thing of beauty!...

So, I just watched it, and it is indeed a beautiful transfer. Of course, you have the usual limitations (a hair at the very bottom of the screen, some light density fluctuations here and there, some very thin scratches at one or two occurrences) but only very light ones, while the positive are overwhelming. The overall definition is marvelous, with especially beautiful shots of Milan, and the picture very stable.

For those familiar with the previous release: any additions/deletions to the marvelous booklet? The four booklets on the Antonioni discs amount to the equivalent of an old Tantivy Press/International Film Guide title!

Is it possible for someone to be green-blind (as in colour-blind) ? Anyway, I don't think that I am.

Well, quite frankly, I just do not see any greenish chroma noise on the pictures of MoC's La Notte in the blu-ray.com review...

What I see on the other side, is that Criterion's La Notte is generally more blue, which seems to be a general practice by them, lending a cooler aspect to every film that they put out.

I will watch my own copy of the MoC bluray this week and report about this puzzling matter.

David Locke....I agree with you. I didn't notice the greenish issue that Dr. Svet mentioned. I watched the MoC blu and didn't see any issues what so ever. I think it's a terrific transfer.

Me too, I was kind of watching for it but didn't see anything that wasn't some shade of black or white. (And didn't see anything green looking on those blu-ray.com captures either.)

(Caveat is I seem to be sensitive to phosphor lag on plasma tvs, so lots of colors due to that... so not sure I'm the best data point. But was looking for that building shot and no colors there, phosphor lag or otherwise.)

I'm glad to see I'm not crazy. I've asked time codes and examples of where to look, because I totally missed this issue. I'm still unable to detect them, neither on my 50" Plasma, nor on my 23" LCD computer screen (where my software allows me to zoom in the picture).

However, the picture of the MoC does look greenish overall, especially in comparison of the Criterion, or the Criterion is more blue-ish.

insanely unexpected announcement from Eureka and fantastic news. the Vitti films all have stellar commentaries from Criterion/BFI except this one (and shoutout to Adrian Martin on Indicator's The Passenger), and Rayns surely will deliver as he always does. love this movie and can't wait!

Dyer is one of the best Movie-critics, hence one of the best critics period.

This is the relevant 2024 restoration... Note a dossier in English is downloadable... MoC/Eureka have obviously retained UK video rights to LA NOTTE hence this 4K UHD release following the Radiance LE model...

I wonder if Tony Rayns' commentary will be on similar lines to the old Time Out capsule review attributed to him.

So I’m guessing L’Avventura would also likely get a newer master that would premier at Cannes Classics or something before we see a UHD release. The Blu-rays of both L’Avventura and La Notte are already 4K-sourced, technically, but the masters are still rather old, needless to say.

P.S. I’m surprised The Passenger and L’Eclisse don’t have 4K masters at all yet. I’m not sure about Zabriskie Point.

Now that it's brought up I've meant to ask about this for a long time. L'avventura already would have had a Cannes Classics appearance in the canceled 2020 edition with a then-new 4K restoration (advertised as "uncut", whatever that means), which was later shown in French theaters and had a Lobster blu-ray release. I couldn't find much info regarding the restoration and its quality, but I assume it's different from what Criterion used when they prepared their blu-ray back in 2014.

It's IL GRIDO that has a recent 2023 4K restoration ripe for 4K UHD release... It's with Janus Films & is thus presumably destined for the Criterion Collection, hopefully in the near future... MoC previously held the UK/IRL DVD rights so it's conceivable that they could pick them up again & proceed with an UK/IRL 4K UHD release...

L'AVVENTURA is unique in that Janus Films have held US rights to this film from before their premiere Stateside on April 4th 1961 at the Beekman Theater NYC & subsequent wider release, so literally the lifetime of the film...

This is the first I’ve heard of there being “cut” and “uncut” versions of L’Avventura. In any case, I’m inclined to think Criterion would give the film a clean-up of sorts followed by a theatrical run at Film Forum, etc. before doing a UHD, although I could be wrong.
