Action (Updated with Specs)Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the long-asked-for cult comedy Action: The Complete Series on February 21st. The edgy series, which starred Jay Mohr and Illeana Douglas, premiered on the Fox Network back in September 1999 and followed tactless movie producer Peter Dragon during production of his action film "Beverly Hills Gun Club." As happens with all good shows, the series was cancelled after eight episodes. Cable network FX picked up the series, including the five episodes originally unaired on Fox, the following year for one more go-around. The set will include all thirteen episodes presented uncensored and unbleeped in fullscreen. Extras will include episode commentaries and a featurette. Retail is $24.96.

I loved this show! I used to watch it while working on my calculus homework. And I got a 5 on the exam!

Will "Car 54 Where Are You?" ever be released legitimately? It's the one thing I want more than anything. It is the greatest show in history.

Regarding the Rockford Files Season 1:

The Region 1 set does not have the double-length pilot. I have the Region 2 set (spread over six single-sided discs) which does have the pilot, but misses the 8min interview with Garner.

I'm looking for two made-for-tv throwaway films from my childhood... I'm aching aching aching to see them. I know there were VHS releases of both, either of which have gone OOP. EBAY yeilds no copies.

1) The witchcraft/horror flick CROWHAVEN FARM from 1970 about a couple who inherit a farm & surrounding woods which have a history of satanic practice

2) NIGHT CRIES from '78 w Susan St James, directed by Richard Lang about a woman who's been told her child was stillborn but is haunted in her dreams by eerie cries and cryptic clues that her child is still alive.

Until which season does the West Wing sustain the amazing quality of S1? And what's with Aaron Sorkin and the use of the word "OK", OK?

TV on DVD has become my new addiction this past year. If I'm not buying or renting a series, I'm downloading it off the internet. As a person who can't handle watching something out of order, TV on DVD is a godsend. For example, I can't imagine trying to watch Season 2 of Lost without watching Season 1. There are some great shows which I've also been watching that weren't included above. I don't have the time or energy to post all of them, but I will say this:

THE WIRE is the BEST SHOW on TV.

Last I heard, sometime this Fall. That may have changed by now. HBO just barely renewed it.

Chalk me up as another huge fan of The Wire.

I recently purchased Cheers season 1-4 on R4 DVDs in Australia. They were good value at A$30 per season which all contain 4 discs per season. The problem is I am hooked and want to get Season 5 & 6 but Amazon have them at US$35 per season. Does anyone know when they will be released in Australia?

Is that Freaks and Geeks de luxe boxset still available? If so, is it really worth the extra amount? To think that the seemingly jam-packed standard edition still does not include everything...

Rockford Files season 2 slated for release on June 13

I just checked out Shout! Factory's excellent 2-DVD set of The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder that focuses on interviews he did with punk and new wavers like Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and John Lyndon... if you're a fan of these folks it is a pretty good purchase.

As a host, Snyder comes off as hopelessly square and clueless as he tries to interacting with people like Iggy and John Lydon (although, he gets on with Elvis Costello quite well) but God love him he really tried to understand where they were coming from and what made punk music work.

Some highlights: ol' Tom actually sits down with Iggy (something that rarely happens on talk shows now) who sports a missing tooth and a slightly bloody nose (he whacked it on the microphone during his first song). Iggy is his usual enthusiastic self, cracking jokes and speaking quite intelligently about his music.

Another a keeper is his interview with a post-Sex Pistols John Lydon (then of Public Image Limited and accompanied by Keith Levine). Lydon does not disappoint, being his usual sarcastic, snarky self, much to Tom's chagrin. As anyone who's seen Lydon in action, he's a tough interview even under the best of circumstances. He repeatedly describes PIL as a “communications companyâ€

with the mentions of chris morris, and for those who like "curb your enthusiasm", i can't recommend enough the two seasons of "I'm Alan Partridge" ("Knowing Me Knowing You", which comes before is a good set up for the others, but the humor is from a distinctly different place, and i think is far below the quality of IAP) but most of all i 10,000 times recommend alan partridge and chris morris alumni Julia davis' "Nighty Night", the first season of which is my favorite television series ever. As dark as "Jam" but done very differently...

does anyone hear remember a short lived show from around 79 or 80 with a name something like "No Vacancy, Basketball" about a boarding house or cheap hotel? It has bugged my memory for the last 25 years....

Are you referring to "Hot L Baltimore"? That was set in a cheap hotel with a load of oddball characters, though I think it may have been a bit earlier ('77 0r '78). Pretty funny, as I recall.
