Well, it wasn't procrastination (for once in my life), but my long hiatus from paying attention to releases. I just snagged this and I'm pretty sure I got the last one because now it's sold out. Would be cool if I get #6,000 :) .

(Also, cheers for the heads-up!)

I hope you do just to see perfect timing pay off, but FWIW, I wrongly assumed the high number on a pre-order I placed for another Indicator set meant it was selling like hotcakes. I was then told they usually shipped out units randomly rather than picking them out in numerical order.

When the Mizoguchi set went OOP and MOC sold off their last remaining stock, I instead got a comically low number (I think it was 14)

If only the Indicator Marlene Dietrich boxset could’ve lasted this long…

I’m guessing there’s still plenty of Mae West sets available though

[Adopts huskily flirtatious voice] 'No-one's more available than I am, honey. Why doncha' come up and see me sometime!' [Winks saucily]

I got both the John Ford and Mae West set, just sad that I didn’t start collecting earlier to be able to get Marlene Dietrich. I have admitted defeat and bought all the Marlene Dietrich individual releases

Yeah, I figured they probably don’t have them all lined up in order at their warehouse, box by box. I’d imagine that would be a tedious practice to follow for all of their releases, but one can hope haha.

Jeez anyone that needs to make a quick buck go check out what Criterion editions of La Grande Illusion are listed for on ebay.

In terms of sold, factory-sealed discs, I only see a couple that sold for $60. Doesn't seem too wild. People listing it over $100 or even $150 are deluding themselves.

Felt like it was fetching <$10 last time I checked is all. Apparently the SC release is OOP too it looks like.

Presumably indicates Criterion intends to relicense and release it in both territories

Ah, okay. I wonder why the artificial scarcity, unless it's been relicensed by Criterion and they're sitting on it.

My copy arrived last week and is 0733, for anyone curious.

Really hope this is the case. Anyone know if a newer remastering has been done since the one that was used for the DVD?

There was a 4K restoration in 2012 from the camera negative, well after the Criterion DVD. Not sure how it would hold up to an actual 4K presentation now, though.

The SC bluray still looks to be in print in the UK. In either case, Criterion have never released a Studio Canal title in the UK.

I just noticed that Hayne's Carol is listed on Amazon as only used (over $30). What's the likelihood it's OOP from Starz/anchorbay? And if so, could this be heading to Criterion. Has Criterion licensed any Starz/AB titles?

The rights may have reverted back to the producers now that the film’s 10 years old. A French 4K release was just released with Haynes and the producers’ involvement, so I’d say anything is possible. I sure hope that whoever’s getting the film now decides to rebuild it in 4K as the current 2K DI isn’t the best.

Carol, Far From Heaven, Poison, Velvet Goldmine have all been on the channel, possibly I’m Not There too. I would think that they would probably try to release any Todd Haynes they could (I wouldn’t hold my breath for Superstar).

Brad Anderson’s The Machinist seems to be OOP. Could be heading to a boutique

That would be great to see upgraded. Especially as it is one of those films with an extra feature directed by an important filmmaker in themselves, as the behind the scenes piece was filmed by Spanish filmmaker Nacho Cerdá.

while this thread is bumped: I wouldn't be surprised if this changed at some point soon. Indicator and Radiance have both licensed from Canal, who are definitely willing to license to UK boutiques, albeit very selectively. considering Criterion do usually release "bigger" Studiocanal titles I'm not sure how likely it is
