The possibility of a feature-length E-Trade babies movie makes me want to hurl myself out the nearest window. What's all the more depressing is that every single woman in my office would go see it.

First off, Matt's link had nothing to do with the new PTA film.

And second off, has he ever used an SNL alum in any of his movies aside from Sandler? I can't believe this is still being brought up as a "problem" - did anyone who saw Punch-Drunk Love really think Sandler was even remotely miscast? The movie wouldn't have worked without him.

You must have missed Melanie Hutsell's scene-stealing work as the bowling ball in There Will Be Blood.

He wasn't on SNL, but Mr. Show alum Paul F. Tomkins had a brief speaking role in TWBB, and his voice was also featured in Magnolia. Similar to Sandler in PDL, I can't imagine anyone else in these parts.

As a side note, what is it about PTA that makes me go all acronymy?

I apologize, I thought that was the cast of the new PTA Scientology movie, but my fears were unfounded. I was worried Tracy Morgan was going to follow in the footsteps of Adam Sandler, as PTA has a baby with Maya Rudolph.

That being said, I think Sandler is just irredeemeable (even on SNL) and I very much dislike Punch-Drunk.

Don't forget Mary-Lynn Rajskub, another Mr Show figure who also did voice work in Magnolia and of course appeared in PDL. But why wouldn't PTA, who is the common-law husband of SNL alum Maya Rudolph, work in the New York comedy circles to begin with?

Not hard to believe he can improve upon it. I thought the Swedish version was pretty unremarkable.

I just resent the idea of dismissing any actor or actress based upon their past or future work. It's more than a little bit snobbish to say "because [this person] was in [this movie and this tv show], they're somehow unworthy of a film I would have allowed myself to enjoy without them." And the idea that since he's with Maya Rudolph because she's an SNL alum is absolutely bizarre.

He's going to be shooting it in 3D.

I saw Scorsese speak a few months ago at LACMA and he said that he didn't think he could ever do 3D. He said he was use to regular staging of the frame, but now you have to direct with the idea of depth and perspective too and that it was too difficult. Hopefully he can pull it off, but this project is giving me a bad feeling.

Honestly, Rock should get props for being interested in and attempting projects like this. A few years back, when "I Think I Love My Wife" was released, Rock gave a couple really interesting interviews (Elvis Mitchell's The Treatment, Creative Screenwriting podcast) where he spoke of how hard it is for him to get a drama made, let alone a remake of a Rohmer film (iirc, he fired his agent), how the studio was baffled when he wanted to cast Hillary Swank, and how the studio hired a Jewish pair to rewrite Rock/CK's version of "Down to Earth" in order to make it more "urban". Very very interesting stuff that I encourage you all to seek out.

In all honesty, viagra joke aside, I thought his Rohmer remake was really good. Not up to the standard of the original of course, but still far better than it ever should have been. I'd rather see him trying to do more dramatic stuff rather than this Death at a Funeral schtick.

MGM is so broke that EON Productions has had to halt development on Bond 23. The upside is that Sam Mendes never signed a contract and so might not direct it.
