I like how it's credited to "Bigas Luna and Bigas Luna" like he's starring in a remake of The Parent Trap.

This may be old news - Janus is mentioned in this retrospective of several restored Youssef Chahine films: Cairo Station, The Land, Alexandria Again and Forever, Saladin the Victorious, Dawn of a New Day, Devil of the Desert, Dark Waters, Adieu Bonaparte, The Sixth Day, The Emigrant, Destiny, The Other:

Never expected them to go all in on K. Kurosawa like this. Wish they (or someone) could liberate Bright Future and Doppelgänger from whatever rights situation they're in. They've both been on the Channel.

This will open at Lincoln Center and IFC in NYC in August, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa will be doing Q&A's at both locations.

Do they still own distribution rights in the US or are they with Janus now fully?

Pretty sure both are still with their respective studios.

Paramount owns the U.S. and Canadian rights to
La dolce vita outright per a
2013 court ruling. Sony is still listed as the distributor for
2046 on digital storefronts like YouTube and Prime Video, though it's not on their site for repertory bookings. I assume their rights will expire someday and Janus will probably pick them up. (Sony's
website for the film is also still up, but it's completely unusable on a typical modern browser because it was built in Flash.)

I do hope Criterion does more than a bare bones edition.
