Wasn't this a Star Trek episode, where one alien looked like a plastic case and the other a digi-pak, and they fought to the death, which put the Enterprise in jeopardy?

They could include a PDF file for it.
Hmm, good point. It's still not the same, though.
Anyways, I'm going to assume the digipak allotment will be like this:
2- or 3-disc Dual-Format: plastic
2- or 3-disc BD-only: plastic
1 to 3 disc DVD-only: plastic
4 or more discs for anything: digipak

Wishful thinking most likely, but hope we've seen the last of the slots.

I hope Picnic at hanging rock is a digipack.

Since it also contains a book, there's approximately a 0.0% chance it's not a Digipak.

I'm sure it will be since it comes with a reprint of the novel. At the very least, it will be in a box.

Criterion could do like they've done with THe Man Who Fell To Earth DVD : plastic case + book in a big slipcover.

I think if Criterion sold only cases (w/ artwork and booklets) they'd still make a tidy profit.

Picnic is most definitely a digipak, as confirmed at DVDBeaver.

Unless he took a photo of it, I wouldn't take DVDBeaver's packaging listing at face value, it's often just copy/pasted from another review. That being said, I don't know why so much discussion has been taking place about whether it'll be a digipak - of course it will be, there's a novel included.

They could do like they've done with The Man Who Fell To Earth DVD : plastic case + book, together in a slipcover.

or they could do like they did with the very recently released Red River and do the typical digipak for films that come with novels

Ah okay, was under the impression that he had access to the actual product since he reviews most of them personally, I think. Then again, what do I know.

He usually gets check discs that are sent out earlier and they rarely come in a finished package (it's usually a slim, clear DVD case.)

So much for trying to hold off on this release for a while; it's far too appealing.

For Hard Day's, true. Though I was mostly going off of
Must-own film. Criterion's Blu-ray Digipak package is gorgeous.
Assumed he had the actual copy. Can never be TOO sure though, I guess.
Cheers fellas. Good to know haha

What's with the random red panel on the 2-disc side?

Was wondering the same. It's a bit "Gee, we're out of artworks, just throw a random flat color there !"

Yes, I'm sure they ran out of photos of The Beatles.

Actually, when you zoom in and adjust the contrast, you see the reason for the red background:

Well, when you think about it, they have plenty of flat inside artwork for no reason. Spontaneously, I'm always thinking of Sweet Smell of Success, which has suce a nice design but a flat yellow inside.
Anyway.

It's red to warn you that those are dvds. You really probably didn't want them, but you got them anyway, don't play them unless you're willing to accept the consequences.
