A little contrasted, zoomed-in, and of course new logo

Anyone who dislikes the Godzilla cover should be outright banned.

What if I just don't have much of an opinion one way or t'other? Do I get to stay?

I like the Godzilla and Belle Du Jour covers, the latter will be nice next to the Ophuls titles.
Will be getting those two and the Gorin set. Good to see the Kalat commentaries on Godzilla as well, loved his work on the MoC discs.

While the Belle de jour cover is a little to Ophuls-y for me, I quite like the Godzilla cover.

I like the Godzilla cover (funny how similar it appears to Traffic when they're seen side by side in HistoryProf's post).

I initially liked Belle de Jour, but the more I look at it, the more it looks as though Deneuve has been shot in the chest.

Apparently the [Godzilla] illustration is by Bill Sienkiewicz. (I actually thought it looked like a middling Sienkiewicz piece, so I actually had Ashley Wood pegged as the artist.) The Godzilla cover is alright but I don't think it's nearly as good as the illustrations he provided for Robinson Crusoe on Mars. I was kind of hoping they would go with an illustrator like Geoff Darrow or Moebius. (Seth Fisher would have been great if he was still alive.)

Geoff Darrow or Moebius would have been amazing but they're kinda hard to sign up, they rarely work nowadays. Someone like LadrĂ³nn might have been easier to land. That said, I think Sienkewicz's Godzilla (if it's indeed him) works like gangbusters so I'm extremely happy as it is.

In my opinion, although it's ok to look at, Belle de Jour is too similar to the Ophuls covers. The Moment of Truth, perhaps the first Criterion film I do not buy because I object to the topic of the film, has an amateur photoshop job cover. The font is generic. Yuk. And as for the Godzilla cover? Just plain awful. It's jarringly bad in my opinion. They should have kept the artwork in the period. Look at how great The Blob Cover looks by comparison. Keep in mind, Criterion has been playing with Godzilla for almost ten years- and this is what they come up with? Yuck.

I almost want to purposely derail this now in hopes of an infighting thread entitled "The snark is generic."

I've always seen the Babble-ons as the de-facto ruler and king of Navel Gazing.

Yes, they should have used font in usage during the period Godzilla existed. It's the only way.

Of course that's what I meant. You are soooo smart. The Godzilla cover looks like the hollywood remake font.

I was hoping they would keep the digipack with all the holes and everything. It was a nicely put and quite fun packaging.
I'm glad it has been kept this way. :D

I think Criterion needs to hire someone for quality control in the art department. All the new release covers are ugly.
