Has ANYONE picked up the new 3-disc Brazil that can provide pics or at least a description? I'm not sure whether to get the 3-disc or the single disc. If the 3-disc has all-new (or even semi-new) packaging, I'll get that instead.

The new Brazil 3-disc release appears to use the exact same packaging as the old release (3 amarays in a blue plastic slipcase), with the exception there is now a sticker on the front saying something like "Mastered in High Definition - Now in Anamorphic". In addition, they've added the 16:9 logo to the back. The 3-disc does not have the new logo or packaging like the 1-disc. I saw this in 3 different stores in Toronto today.

I liked the first cover better... it was more mysterious.

fwiw, amarcord arrived today okay, seven samarai has just a tiny crunch in one corner, and playtime has a slight knife cut.... fortunately these were not in the other box that arrived all smashed to hell.

The new Pandora cover reminds me of all those pictures of Criterion t-shirts filled with the bosoms of interns.

It's basically the poster Janus/Kino used when they put the film on the road a couple months ago, the same photo of Brooks with the veil, a la the courtroom scenes. So not much original design-- if any-- went into it.

since no one here suggested this, you gotta wonder what other message board the art dept at Criterion is cheating on us with.

that's a different kind of box

What were the actual differences? If I recall correctly the prev version had a lightened greyscale, and was simply the same photo zoomed in a bit framing her just around the head & shoulders-- right?

For what it's worth, I find this one, with the richer contrast & vampish black silk dress visible, far more sexy & dynamic. I thought the previous one bland as Yanni.

PS: Kin, is that a legit pic of Brooks? The body (chest especially) sure looks accurate enough.

Oh my, yes. Here is another of the same which is currently at auction on eBay, and while you're at it, you might enjoy browsing this site.

NSFW link

She's so young & tomboyish-- in the way that marks very young female beauty, where the adult sexuality hasn't truly kicked in throughout the overall presence-- it almost feels like kiddie porn.

Ah Louise... I coulda been your Schigolch, but I woulda come at you with something other than a harmonica when my blood started ta boil when you danced incorrectly. I woulda come at you with an organ.

This isn't helping bring the art dept back.

What makes you think so? Know their predilictions? It may nail them to the floor of the thread, smarty.

So today I was browsing the usual assortment of stores and was knocked out by Amarcord in person - the beautiful package has more or less won me over to the idea of commiting money to it.

Also saw Six Moral Tales in person for the first time and although I had previously thought all the hoopola over the box was kind of exaggerated, seeing it in person I was appalled. There was enough space in the thing that the front panel on both copies was crushed inward three ways and the contents were still shaking around loose in the plastic - both myself and my friend agreed that the thing just looked cheap.

Also, the green on Playtime is far, far too much. That is all.

They obviously think the new one is more a full frontal come on, whereas the previous is a kinda cute peek...
