Yeah, I think it's been about a year since we heard it was coming from them. Then there was that "double" clue with
Exterminating Angel, so it's hard to tell. I'd say in a few months, after checking my gut.

That "double" clue also said that whatever it was clueing about would come out in February, so I think it's fair to say that it was not a double clue after all.

Maybe it was a reverse double double clue

I think the phenomenon of the "double clue" is mass hysteria localised to a couple of threads on this forum.

Don't double divert suspicion, zedz-- or should I say, Jon Mulvaney?

See here, now I feel embarrassed I didn't remember. Sucks that it appears Cook's in limbo, thing that introduced me to criterion actually.

I asked Mulvaney about Cinema novo and got this response:
We'd love to have some Brazilian films in the collection at some point, but unfortunately, I can't tell you what they might be. There are a lot of films that we've been thinking about. Feel free to check back, and thanks for your e-mail!

I e-mailed Mulvaney to ask if "The Spider's Stratagem" or any other Bertolucci might be coming soon, but he said:

Oh well.

Every time I see "The Spider's Strategem" mentioned, it gets me to remembering CBS Cable.
(Also gets me wondering again wtf is the hold up for getting this onto DVD.)
more sadness

No plans at this time for the Dziga Vertov group per Jon Mulvaney.

I don't even think they have La Chinoise anymore do they?

I doubt they ever did. It was Lionsgate who thought Criterion had La Chinoise -- I don't recall Criterion themselves ever saying anything on the matter. They certainly don't have it now, given that Koch Lorber released it just last year.

Seems like Jon Mulvaney is on a disappointment-spree. No plans for any Takeshi Kitano right now either according to an email.

And the Mulvaney downer-spree continues with no plans for Gordon Parks' Leadbelly.

Maybe they don't intend to release anything after 'Pigs and Battleships"

Mulvaney e-mailed me as well, to let me know to expect more Costa-Gravas in late 2009/early 2010.

Z was just announced as a
Rialto re-release, so that's one title, at least.

Mulvaney emailed me letting us know that "Greed" is not coming but we can expect "The Wedding March" some time next year (2010?), and not (as expected) for this year. Bummer on "Greed", but I do look forward to "The Wedding March."
When is CC going to finally release something from the cinema novo period? WTF!!! Rocha/Duarte are two that come to mind to most fans...I know their would be a market for such movies (maybe that's wishful thinking?!?).
Lastly, "Spider's Strategem" needs to be on DVD. Why is it taking so F'ing long?
Am very excited about "Z" as well.

Warner's owns Greed, I believe. I also believe it was supposed to come out last year?
