I take from this that we're only going to see "Sanjuro" and "Yojimbo" on blu-ray since they've already received two releases on DVD from Criterion.

Also from the Current:
Sanshiro Sugata; Sanshiro Sugata, Part Two; and The Most Beautiful will be released in an Eclipse set; The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail and Madadayo will be released in Criterion editions.

Sanjuro on Blu is fantastic news but I shall hold off putting the DVD up for sale until it's officially confirmed later this week though it doesn't look like we'll have a repeat of the RAN fiasco.

Great news. So I take it both will be offered in a package together?
Glad to hear Seven Samurai is coming along very well and Criterion is taking such painstaking detail with it.

Good news on the Kurosawa front in terms of seperate releases on his eariler films. Is there a link to where it states that 3 are going to be eclipse and two are coming straight from the Criterion label?
Here is hoping that they give us some news on the Hideo Gosha front.

Um, definitely not Rivette.

It's just way too early. I'd be astonished to see it released so soon. But yes,
Paris nous appartient seems to be the one they'll release before
Out 1. If you're interested, some speculation was had on the last page.

ok cool, thanks. =D>
PARIS... is amazing by the way. it's rough but its incredible to think of that film being made in the late 50s. If you dig around a bit, there's the occasional VHS floating around in public libraries (at least up in these parts).

Any thoughts on whether Dillinger is Dead's eventual release will come on Blu-ray or not? I'm buying it either way, but I'd like to think that all of Janus' work on the rerelease, the beautiful poster, it's huge potential as "a cult-classic without a cult" etc. are good signs that the film will get the Blu treatment.
Then again, it is a fairly obscure, nearly silent film by a sadly almost forgotten Italian film director now best known for nailing Gerard Depardieu's penis to a plank.

Don't hold me to this, but I believe they said on Facebook a while ago that this would be DVD only.

Are you sure? Since when do they announce the new titles on the 15th of every single month?

It'll be at least half IFbullChit Deal titles (Revanche 2, Hunger 2, Che 3 and 4) instead of the vintage films that the CC was born to make. At least last month we had some Lola Montez blu and a long awaited Leo McCarey, and Paris Texas and 8 1/2 were sweet as well, so my complaint isn't exactly realistic. Still, today is the 15th, so I can't wait to find out!

Actually, yesterday that Criterion Current post did mention the above info about those titles, but it seems they have edited the text since then. :-k

It did. The Sugata's and The Most Beautiful will be an Eclipse set. Madadayo and Tigers Tail will be Criterion editions. I wonder why they snipped that out? Maybe they thought it would interfere with sales of the Kurosawa box.

Holy crap. The extras just got posted on the Criterion website for the Costa box set and there's a surprisingly large amount of them!

No kidding. 2010 is shaping up to be one of Criterion's most impressive years ever.

I was thinking the same thing, although more along the lines of
the best year, especially with the possibility of
Vivre sa vie,
Weekend, By Brakhage vol. 1 on Blu-ray and By Brakhage Vol. 2 on DVD and Blu-ray next month.
