Wow, I'm amazed Criterion didn't go for the cashgrab!

I'm simply amazed at how much product they are putting out in August.

The features on the Vigo set are pretty solid, too- the Gondry animated tribute sounds charming, and I'm glad to see some thorough commentaries.

I just read the features on the Vigo set and I'm incredibly excited for this one. The price isn't bad, either. I'm most excited for the Koreyoshi Kurahara set, however.

I'm surprised they have it all on one Blu at normal MSRP.

Glad that they're not spreading the Vigo set across two discs since only L'Atalante is feature-length and the bonus supplements are evidently fitting just fine onto that single Blu-Ray disc.

if they can put out that much mainline stuff and a five disc eclipse, why do we have lean months on the mainline accompanied by no eclipse (says the guy who wants an eclipse release every month, or at least ten a year)?

I guess this is the full episode? Which would make it the first full episode Criterion have issued of Cinéastes de notre temps rather than just extracts. And Jacques Rozier did the two documentaries on the Contempt DVD - Bardot et Godard and Paparazzi, so it would be nice to get another film by him!

I like the idea of upgrading If... now with Vigo's Zéro de Conduite getting a release. I heard of the link between the two films but I still haven't seen Lindsay Anderson's film.

Damn, I shouldn't have changed my guess from The Killing at the last minute! Anyway, it's really amazing that it's being packaged with Killer's Kiss, too. I was wondering just earlier today when Criterion was going to get around to restoring that one. (I guess now they only have worry about restoring Fear and Desire to complete their early Kubrick collection.)

This month is solid and well worth this past sleepless night. (The artwork for Secret Sunshine sucks hard, though. Still, it's a good movie.)

Probably simply because things get bumped around due to snags, and Criterion picks up the slack in months like this one.

Pigs & Battleships included the entire episode devoted to Imamura.

Ah! I thought as I posted that I must have been forgetting something!

Same here! I wouldn't have minded fully packed individual releases with paired imagery along the lines of Theives' Highway and Night and the City, but this reminds me more of The Killers a few years ago getting a double sided cover on the one release for each version of the film. Killer's Kiss even gets a related discussion piece, even if it seems to have been more pointedly relegated to the status of 'extra feature'!

Although how much of that billing could also relate to needing to provide a DVD for each film vs fitting both on one Blu-ray is still to be determined. It would be interesting to see if the DVD version of The Killing separates out Killer's Kiss and its related extras onto the second disc.

(I prefer Killer's Kiss) 8-[

If Killer's Kiss is only an extra and they didn't also include Fear and Desire now, there's no way it's ever getting released.

Oh, I didn't think it would get an individual release. But, I'm still holding out hope for it being packaged with another Kubrick in the future. Right now, I have a crappy bootleg version that is basically unwatchable. It's not a bad film at all; it'd be a decent supplement.

Is there any chance of Jacques Rozier having his own release some day?

I asked on facebook and didn't get a reply so my best guess is no. The French box is outstanding anyway and has English subs, although it's not cheap to import.

I would suspect so - the full episode is there on the Artificial Eye Vigo set.
