Wow, I just noticed how cheap this Vigo set will be! It's like stealing! (I guess that's fitting to coincide with the releases of The Killing and Cul-De-Sac.)

I feel better about the six different times I picked up Battle for Algiers on blu at B&N last november and july and then put it back down, saying, "no, surely they'll take this one blu in the next year or so."

Very interesting that Killers Kiss is not getting its own title. I wonder how much it's due to them not wanting to get blasted for not putting it out on Blu-ray, or for the quality of the Blu-ray if they did put it out separately on Blu-ray.

Anyone else just a little annoyed that Taris is only mentioned in the box art? It's a perfect month movie wise (never even heard of Koreyoshi Kurahara) but that is just annoys.

Yeah, they really gave it a cursory treatment in that sense. It's Criterion, though, so it's probably been polished very well.

From the synopsis of the Vigo set on the site, "Taris, an inventive short portrait of a swimming champion..."

Yeah. Now you'll have more money to spend on Pinky Toscadero

I'm kind of sad Killer's Kiss is being packed as an special feature. After all, it's a feature film, I guess it deserved its own release.

If Drive He Said/A Safe Place merit spines....

Eh, I'm not mad. It's a great release. I'm happy we're getting both.

Technically a feature film, but it is running at 67 min.

Simon of the Desert, Suzanne's Career, and the Bakery Girl of Monceau all have their spine numbers.

And are all much better films that Killer's Kiss, as are Patriotism and Night and Fog. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, I say. If getting included as an extra feature on a Criterion Blu-Ray is to be considered a grievous slight, your heart should really be going out to Traveller, not some Kubrick juvenilia.

The Killing is going to be a no-question buy for me, but I wish there were a commentary or a visual essay- it seems like commentaries in particular are getting much rarer these days.

Is seven Blu-rays in one month a record for them?

Not if you count all the BBS titles from last November.

Whoa, it's spelled "Tuscadero," friend! (I'm kidding, but I think I'm going to regret picking this user name.)

BBS box set aside, I was gonna say that seven titles on blu-ray ties with with this current month of May.

I just realized that If . . . will be out the same day as the Vigo set. That's such a "duh" I can't believe that I hadn't thought of it earlier. If they hadn't already put out The 400 Blows on Blu, it would have been perfect as well.

No, region free
Then I'll be ordering it. Thanks. Why does Amazon say "it won't play on US dvd players"?

About the Koreyoshi Kurahara Eclipse,
The Warped Ones sounds awesome. Has anyone seen it?

Tim Lucas wrote a long piece about it.

This film sounds right up my alley. It sounds like it should be more well known. Thanks alot for that link (didn't read the spoilers part, just the beginning and ending gave me what I needed).

*CG* wrote:Is there any chance of Jacques Rozier having his own release some day?
Actually I would not rule this out as a future Eclipse. Rozier was seeking a US distributor for the films a few years back. My understanding was that he made a deal with Watchmaker Films (which rereleased The Whole Shootin' Match), but had also talked to Criterion. Watchmaker now seems to be dormant so maybe Criterion is back in play.

As we've agreed in other threads, Rozier is an unacknowledged master and I'd love to see this happen, even though the French DVD set is perfectly adequate.

^ Cool news. Hopefully a Rozier Eclipse and Gorin (come on!) Eclipse is coming.

And as for The Warped Ones, I'm assuming that it's one of the titles that was in the cards for the original Eclipse concept of cult/horror films. Speaking of which, we still don't have Goku - Bodysnatcher From Hell.
