Not unless they've changed their policy. And I assume that if purchased from elsewhere these titles would probably be DVD-Rs? Amazon, for example, state that the Forbidden Hollywood collections, if purchased from them, are MOD. Would that be true also for, say, Import CDs?

Not sure about Amazon, though I think they might be taking a better safe than sorry approach to the Warner Archive discs in labeling them DVD-R, whether they are or not. Why wouldn't Warner Archive just supply them with actual dvds, at least to begin with? Regarding ImportCDs, I've ordered all four Forbidden Hollywood collections + Crime Does Not Pay from them, and they've all been pressed dvds.

Thanks. I've read claims somewhere (perhaps on here?) that Amazon burn their own copies. I don't know if that's true but WA releases are usually cheaper from Import CDs anyway.

Warner Archives posted on their Facebook page that anything listed on this page is still available via pressed disc from WBShop/WarnerArchives directly. The usual boxed set suspects are there (and I'm nervous about hitting the button for Forbidden Hollywood 4 and 5, Falcon Vol 2, and Crime Does Not Pay-- has anyone bought these recently and gotten pressed discs?) but what's surprising is several of their Paramount titles are listed as well-- apparently a big title like Miracle of Morgan's Creek wasn't relegated to DVD-R hell exactly? Can anyone verify the Paramount single-disc titles in the link above as not being DVD-Rs?

From that list I've got the WA Brain Candy (which I picked up in the Thanksgiving sale) and it is indeed a pressed disc, a direct port of the Paramount disc in fact. As for ...Morgan's Creek, I have it on good authority that Santa's bringing it to me, so I can't vouch for that disc just yet. I should also be receiving The Assassination Bureau and Funeral In Berlin then, but it looks like both of those Paramounts didn't make the list. #-o

Wow, crazy and good to know. Odd that these are the selections to get pressed, but it does my heart a little good to know that classics like Family Jewels and Miracle of Morgan's Creek aren't quite as ghettoized as I thought. I ended up ordering all the boxed sets in question after realizing I could resell any DVD-R copies on Amazon and make back my money pretty easily, so I'll let everyone know if they're still safe to buy once they arrive.

I just got Forbidden Hollywood 4 (though not direct, via Deep Discount) and it was all pressed discs. I ordered 5 at the same time and have not yet received it, so I'm expecting that to be DVD-Rs.

I just got Forbidden Hollywood too last week, from amazon, and they are blue dvd- discs. Is it true then that first runs were pressed discs and somehow some retailers still have copies left, like this Deep Discount?

Amazon automatically prints their own DVD-Rs regardless for Archive titles, even those available pressed elsewhere

Thanks Harvey, I guess I'll give this Deep Discount place a try. I already watched three of the movies on FH4 and found them really good.

After Domino's post, I decided to order Forbidden Hollywood 6 from Warner Archive. The set arrived today & it is pressed.

For what it's worth I ordered forbidden Hollywood 6 & 7 a couple weeks ago from Amazon. The discs were pressed. But I don't doubt you're generally safer ordering somewhere other than Amazon

Wow, Christmas came early: I ordered directly from WBShop and can confirm that Forbidden Hollywood Vol 4, Forbidden Hollywood Vol 5, Crime Does Not Pay: the Complete Shorts Collection, and the Falcon Mystery Movie Collection Vol 2 are ALL still available on pressed discs! \:D/

I finally received my sets of Forbidden Hollywood 5 and 7, from amazon. 5 was pressed! But 7 wasn't. Phil must have ordered 7 before me, or was luckier than me.

I almost placed an order with TMC during their New Year's sale for the FH sets. In one place it says "MOD" for all the sets, but then only 1 set had a notice (in red) at the bottom stating that they were DVD-Rs, so I ended up deciding that the pressed were only available directly from Warner & passed on the sale.

I'm a little confused about what's going with the Forbidden Hollywood sets, are they all basically a crapshoot? For one reason or another I've put off buying them but finally was looking to get volume 1 & 2 except I have no idea from where.

Volumes 1-3 are pressed no matter where you buy them. As of right now, it looks like Volumes 4-7 are pressed if you order from WBShop and are likely to be burned DVD-Rs if you order from Amazon. Ordering from other retailers is a crapshoot with regards to Vols 4-7, but they eventually will be burned DVD-Rs from everywhere

Thanks for the rundown Domino. Went ahead and ordered the first two, is there any from 4-7 that is a particular standout I shouldn't hesitate to order?

Volumes 5 and 7 are my favorites released from Warner Archive. If you can order just 1, go with volume 7.

And 6 has Kay Francis and Ann Dvorak of whom I've yet to see a film from. The Warner Archive site says the dvds are made to order, I assume this means DVD-Rs?

No, actually: so long as they're still up on this page, they're still available as pressed DVDs. I ordered last month from WBShop and got all my titles pressed even though they said made to order on the WBShop site. All the FH sets should be available from WB directly pressed. Also, keep in mind the William Powell set is essentially another Forbidden Hollywood set as well

They are releasing Dr. Kildare Movie Collection (5 discs, 9 films) on January 21 and Dr. Kildare: The Complete Second Season (9 discs, 34 episodes) on January 28. Both sets will be on replicated discs.

Hi, could someone tell me whether or not there was a way to distinguish between pressed and MOD discs without looking at the bottom? For instance, in the picture below would the presence of the thicker silver rings around the edge indicate pressed discs? I own many MOD discs including a handful from Warner Archive and none of those have these rings:

thanks a bunch
