Daines you really should. Visually, Playtime is a masterpiece, and it works as a near silent. The gags, pacing, and joy in the film is really quite something.

Not just an iconic shot, the framing is phenomenal, it's a visually dense shot with a deep z axis that echoes the classic story of the west. The direction of the receding posts draws the eye to the left and west, and the background of monument valley, Earp is foregrounded against the visual of the distant west, he belongs to it and in it, he is visually presented as a wanderer belonging to or headed into the horizon (the classic western story). As a visual counterpoint to this, you have the right side of the frame, backgrounded by the town, and riders approaching. The visual structure establishes their line of approach literally opposed to the composition that recedes to the west, it implies a crossing and a conflict; it bodes danger. And Earp is not looking at them, though relaxed, he is unaware of the threat coming upon him, even as his leg blocks their way (figuratively, in the composition).

For any of those who remember the odd little mystery over how Criterion initially released the DVD of F FOR FAKE with "Orson Welles's F FOR FAKE" printed on the cover only to change the possessive to "Orson Welles' F FOR FAKE" on a later printing...well, they've changed it back again for the Blu-ray issue!

I, too am really digging the My Darling Clementine art. If only the designer of the Yu tu mama tambien art had been as psychothic!

I wonder if the La dolce vita art was selected with the intent of being a sort of "mate" to their The Great Beauty art. I do find the title to be a somewhat obnoxious, and more reflective of the film's status than its content. Even so, I'm not sure that it actually harms the overall design.

Easily the best month in like, forever. Love the Tati, Vanashing and My Darling Clementine cover.
Got the Criterion F For Fake dvd but still have to watch it to see it I`m going to double dip, same goes for the R1 deluxe dvd of La Dolce Vita. Will probably get it at some point though.

I liked the original cover but this one is doing the same thing (looking like childrens' book art from the 60s) and is less busy so I'm okay with it

Did somebody even complain against the previous Cybele cover art? I have never seen this film. I was going to buy it irrespective of this change.

I actually didn't really like the original cover art. The film sounded interesting, but the original art felt very unfocused and doodley, whereas this is a VAST improvement in my opinion. It also makes the film stand out a lot more, whereas the original fell into the vast pile of covers whose titles and cover art sort of blended together in my mind.

I was going to complain about how terrible it was, but i just looked again this time on my phone instead of a computer and discovered that the new cover is not a childs nightmare black squid scribbling but actually an interesting image if you turn your phone upside down.
