How come criterion hasn't released Tetris on bluray? are they so stuck up that they'll only release TV and movies?
The 1989 Gameboy version is the best, but I don't know if upgrading to HD would do anything to help the image quality.

I keep e-mailing Mulvaney regarding a Criterion edition of Monopoly, but have yet to get a response. My current copy is missing a bunch of twenties, but I'm trying to hold off for the upgrade.

Forgive me for hoping for more Claire Denis. Didn't know it would be an affront to entitled cinephiles everywhere. Friendly bunch this forum is.

I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the Constellation of Kasterborous. I'm over 2000 years old, and I'm the man who's gonna save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?

Criterion posted this image on their Instagram page today:

Does this mean a re-release (and re-printing of the novel) of The Man Who Fell to Earth is forthcoming? A comment on the page suggests that a re-release is coming in February 2015. Anyone know if the Studio Canal rights have expired?

This is a tantalizing prospect, but I'd prefer some better evidence. The Instagram user who commented on the re-release has a private account, so that's a dead end. Maybe someone here can take the case, ianungstad (who's been on a roll lately with Watership Down, A Hard Day's Night, and others), or one of the guys from CriterionCast? It does seem like a weird thing for Criterion to post, since none of the other books are even from recent releases (so far as I can tell, not sure about the bottom right two). Does anyone know how StudioCanal acquired the film, and if it's even possible for them to lose the rights? Or maybe the Tati set is ordering well enough for Lionsgate to consider playing ball (unilkely).

I believe the brown one on bottom right is the production diary included with Burden of Dreams.

Would be nice if MWFtE, Mr. Arkadin and Burden of Dreams got the blu upgrade/rerelease, but how likely that is... I don't think so.

For what it's worth, I emailed them this week and asked if they had replacement booklets for the Blu-ray of Man Who Fell To Earth available for sale, and got a negative response

I had thought Walker, but you're right

Well, obviously MWFtE is in a different category than the other two. Arkadin, being a deluxe package, is almost guaranteed to get a Blu release, barring a licensing issue, and with the Les Blank box coming, Burden of Dreams is a possibility too.

MWFTE looks more like DVD proportion than Blu, but it's really hard to tell. And anyway, I expect they'd give it new art to distinguish a new release. Would be nice if they added the book back to a Blu rerelease, though.

Does anyone really think they'd be printing materials this soon though? Art never gets locked until right before the releases are announced, and the actual packages don't get printed until months after the announcement. (As evidenced by the photos of cover proofs they will often post to twitter).

Do they really need to do new packaging and update MWFTE, though? The OOP edition is pretty fantastic (even if the blu doesn't have the novel--that's easily fixed), I'd think if they somehow got the rights back, they could just plug-and-play put it back up for sale as-is. What's shown in that picture is almost assuredly old stock just sitting around in case it goes back into print.

What's shown in the picture is, in fact, the Tevis novel that came with the original DVD version.

Right. We know Criterion always has extra packaging elements sitting around, so it's not that surprising they'd still have them, even if they won't send them out for replacement parts anymore.

That's disappointing. I was hoping we might actually see TMWFTE on Criterion again as no-one else seems to be giving it a decent release in the US since the rights got snatched back.

This is all I want as well. One, because it's what I've been waiting for the most, and two, we can get a pattern on how these will be released, so we don't have to wait/hope that they get around to a 2nd set. Every December would be wonderful. Can't wait to see 'The Night of Counting the Years', 'Limite', and the Lino Brocka film restored.

I don't think we could have the greatest month ever twice in a single year (see October).
