Such arbitrary picking from the suite of Lewtons, like releasing only one of the Astaire/Rogers cycle, conjures up Clockwise: “It’s not the despair - I can take the despair. It’s the hope I can’t stand.”

Well I think Isle of the Dead is terrific and it seems the timely pick for the Covid times. I’m sure if new masters are being made the others will find their way to release soon enough, especially given WAC seems to really fall down rabbit holes like “lots of Judy Garland!” Or “MGM musicals!” That suddenly dominate releases for two or three months probably following those titles being the subject of restoration projects in the archive.

Nice. The initial DVDs were defective long before it was cool for WB DVDs to crap out

I believe Isle of the Dead was announced by Scream Factory before they stopped releasing Lewtons, so perhaps this title was just ready to go.

Scream balked because the cost of paying for part of the restoration work was not worth the sales they got. The restoration happening now wasn’t available at the time.

WAC is also fond of re-releasing titles as 4-packs (Hitchcock, Bogart/Bacall, Film Noir etc.), so assuming sales don’t tank, we could see the other Lewtons released individually with an Isle of the Dead/7th Victim/Ghost Ship/I Walked With a Zombie collection down the road.

I guess we're never getting De Palma's
Femme Fatale, huh?
Been wanting to upgrade my snapcase DVD for a long time. Seeing this film on its opening weekend by myself in a huge, almost-empty theater at the Arclight in LA is one of my favorite movie-going memories. Went in with fairly low expectations and was blown away by the beauty and fluidity of the filmmaking.
Thought maybe the De Palma doc would spur enough interest for a blu ray release of this film. Alas, no. Yet we have a Director's Cut Special Edition of freaking
Raising Cain.

I hadn’t seen this one mentioned yet —
Good News (1947), starring June Allyson and Peter Lawford.

It was mentioned a few pages back, but any and all publicity for this masterpiece is welcome

My point is that it's criminal that WB aren't simply giving this away for free

Well I knew it was a riff on the song, but I was still hopeful that it signified a deal in effect as per usual when "4 for $44" is mentioned in this thread. This is not good news.

According to posters on blurry.com this was in an email sent out by Warner Archive....
2021 is here, and with it comes change. So we and our friends at the Araca Group that manage WBShop wanted to say thank you for your support with a final 4 for 44 sale! Start your lists and get ready to save on the weekend of March 12th, 2021! See you then!

So this is the last 4 for 44 sale ever? What a 2020 move

People jumped to the conclusion on Twitter that Warner Archive was closing, but is it just a switch to a different online setup? That Araca Group seems to specialize in theater merchandising and sold part of their company to Sony a couple years ago.

I'm glad I splurged the last time around, though that was mostly because of a rare coupon code that actually overlapped with the sale.

It seems this is just due to Araca Group no longer handling retail for Warner Archive after Warner Bros. and Universal agreed to merge their physical operations
in a joint venture announced early last year and planned to start in the first quarter of this year.

Going by their last sale, we should expect Dec releases and perhaps early January to be included (maybe through Jan though that would be liberally unprecedented) so today would be a good day to buy the others from DD before their coupon expires
