Paul and Paula, that's cute, I totally missed the comic mileage value of that. My thinking was more along the lines of Rand's corporate identity work was overrated and overpriced and oh yeah, boooorrr[yawn]rrring... I will concede that I still have a copy of Thoughts on Design on the shelf more for its quaint antiquity than his, oh boy...thoughts on design.

Now who's embarressing?

Calling Paul Rand overrated, is like saying Ozu was a Second Unit Director.

It reminds me of the Rohmer boxset cover but overall I don't like it. They should have gone for full B/W.

Unacceptable. Should have been a nice, posed portrait of Big Edie to mirror the iconic image of Little Edie on the cover of Grey Gardens. If that was unavailable, they could have at least done away with those--what are they, contact sheets?--at the top and bottom.
I still agree with myself after having seen the big version. I want it to be a still of Edith Bouvier Beale sunning herself. You know, the part where she says, "I'm gonna get naked in just a minute." Either that, or her sitting in bed offering the Maylses a corn cob on a fork.

I agree with Matt. I'm a sucker for symmetry.

Just wanted to check in about the Rohmer box replacements...

I requested mine on the day after the announcement was put up. I still haven't received it. Is anyone else in the same boat? Should I re-email my request?

I would e-mail them again, telling them that you already requested a replacement (and when) and that you haven't received it.

And also, try to include the place and order number from where you bought it. (If it's from an online retailer)

I'm in the same boat and I live less than half an hour from Criterion's offices so there's obviously a batch of people still waiting.

For what it's worth, I sent my email on September 14, and my box just arrived today. They probably wait to send them in large batches.

tavernier wrote:This is one terrific set! Let's hope Criterion continues putting out more Rosi.

And for the record, disc 2's supplements are:

Neapolitan Diary - 89 min
New Rosi interview - 13 min
Film critic Tullio Kezitch interview - 5 min
Video discussion with Rosi, Raffaele La Capria, and Michel Ciment - 16 min
Jean-Pierre Gorin interview - 6 min.

That's substantial enough for me....
Sorry, but you know I have to ask this. How's the packaging?

It's a slim case with the two discs overlapping on the same side. That's a first for Criterion, I think.

Got my Rohmer box today, so they are shipping overseas. Just wish they'd done the same with a replacement booklet I asked for a while back. Anyway, hats off to whoever. =D>

Damn, I thought they'd dropped the figure-eight case format after Elevator to the Gallows. Still, I guess it makes more sense with a slim/single case than a double.

If in this case their "SPECIAL EDITION DOUBLE-DISC" doesn't come in cardboard, perhaps Pandora's Box and The Double Life Of Veronique will be same/similar.

Guess I can fairly safely order this online after all.

Border Radio specs are also up, though no cover yet. The 2 Gordon double features are spines 365 and 366 as expected

Those spec's for the Kurosawa's are weak. An additional disc for a 35 minutes segment of a doc? Come on.
