This is almost as exciting as the news that Twilight Time is releasing La Bamba!

Where's the Kickstarter to help TT release Cocoon 2: The Return on Blu-ray? Pledge $5,000 or more and go to a cockfighting tournament with Wilford Brimley?

Where's the love for LULU? It's a film rarely mentioned but one I find Boro is on top form. Maybe the reason is that the only available DVD is a french edition without english subs.

Its inclusion on a dreamed second volume is mandatory, in my opinion.

By the way, do I get a prize for guessing?

On reflection you're right, the project does lend itself more to the supper club style rendition.

Scrolling through the list of Kickstarter backers, I see that the Quay Brothers have pledged their support. It would be good to see them pop up in the supplements.

Just try and stop them!

It's possible that it's the real Quay brothers who've joined Kickstarter to back this, but I spotted "Dylan Thomas" in the same list.

Damn, at this rate by the end of the next week the goal will be met.

The real Quay Brothers most certainly know about this project!

The official Walerian Borowczyk Collection blog, Boro's Dictionary, has just gone live with a piece by Daniel Bird about Animation, and should be updated weekly between now and the release date. Next week's entry, about Bestiality, will be courtesy of yours truly, but I need to do some field research first.

Well, Kickstarter is way over halfway there in only a few days. Visiting that site is like an instant pick-me-up.

I think Arrow should start drawing up their wishlist for the overflow.

Up to a point. I think we probably will make it, but it's not quite as much of a "well, duh" situation as it seems, as there's been a pretty vertiginous plunge in pledges over the last 24 hours.

Day 1 (24 hours): 77 backers pledging £5,710
Day 2 (24 hours): 86 backers pledging £3,597
Day 3 (22.5 hours): 18 backers pledging £1,888

...and that's without taking into account Day 3 being skewed by both the project's producers adding themselves to the pledge list - and jointly pledging a fair wodge of cash.

But I have to keep reminding myself that there are 57 more days to go!
I think Arrow should start drawing up their wishlist for the overflow.
Such a wishlist has existed from the moment we started being forced to drop titles for financial reasons!

Put it like this: I can guarantee that any overflow will be ploughed straight back into the project, and that whatever happens to the final RRP of the box, the Kickstarter price will remain fixed at £60 regardless of how many films/discs it eventually ends up including. Which is currently a minimum of five features and fourteen shorts.

If you want concrete results, you need to state requests in concrete terms, e.g. How many people do I have to kill so that Arrow will purchase the rights to Docteur Jekyll et les femmes?

I assumed that overflow would be put into more supplements or a bigger booklet/fancier packaging, but if we're talking additional titles/discs, then I second some sort of wishlist being put up. 25K for this, 30K for that, 50K for etc. etc. Because I'm up for increasing my £60 contribution a fair bit if it means more features or shorts!

I'd assume one problem with an explicit breakdown of titles with acquisition costs are that such things are subject to negotiation, and you can imagine how such a list could backfire if someone took it the wrong way. I gather there are a few Italian/Spanish cult 70's horror films that have never come out because the rights holders developed an overinflated idea of what the films were worth.

I think it was a really good idea to make the Kickstarter an 8 week project though, as it gives everyone involved a good amount of time to maximise the potential of all this. I'll be backing soon (for the box) and have high hopes for the box set booklet, which will hopefully grow in size if Arrow get some additional fun money from the Kickstarter.

Absolutely. And Arrow is more aware of these scenarios than many!

As indeed am I - I had a project collapse on me because the long-deceased filmmaker's descendants had wholly unrealistic expectations of the likely revenue stream. We offered a perfectly fair market rate, and I see that no-one has made a better offer since.

My favorite kickstarters are the ones where I'm basically buying something I would be buying anyways.

Been meaning to explore Walerian Borowczyk's work for a long time now, and this set basically is the perfect opportunity to.

Really glad its dual format as well.

Can't emphasize that point enough. By itself I'd probably put in a buck or two, but with the dual format I went the full monty. Now let's just hope it keeps up a 135 average.

I have duly hassled some folk who should be supporting this, and encourage other forum members to promote it as well.

At last I have got around to adding my pledge. It would be wonderful if the BFI programmed a Borowczyk season next year to show these restored films. A couple of years ago they planned to show some of the shorts, but cancelled at the last moment, I believe because the available prints were so poor. Daniel Bird and Michael Brooke have both given good service to the BFI and its audiences over the years, so why not ask them to introduce some of the films? I think there would be a lot of interest.

Will La Bete (The Beast) include both versions?
