The article is one thing but the comments are something else. I read through the arguments about whether or not a film that doesn't exist yet is going to be "icky" until reaching someone who went by the endlessly baffling moniker "Pink's Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves" and left it there.

I thought there was a refreshingly large number of commentators pointing out that this article sucked

Yes, but one can't put much stock in (especially avatar-less!) internet commenters considering their activities elsewhere. At any rate, I'm just gonna have to ignore the discourse around Tarantino from now on outside of actual film circles, which is the place where the discourse around Tarantino used to be the most toxic and worthless. Might be restricted to the discourse in my own head at some point.

Michael Polish is making a competing Tate biopic with his wife/current muse Kate Bosworth, sanctioned by Tate's family-- I'm reasonably certain I'm the only person here who still follows Polish's career and enjoyed with reservations the last couple films he made with Bosworth (writeups of which are somewhere on this board)

Margot Robbie wants that money and deserves it.

So Reynolds, one of the two lead actors who claimed to be embarrassed that they appeared in Boogie Nights due to its revolting subject matter, is happy to accept a role in a film about Charles Manson? He probably won't admit to watching this one either.

Everyone is still assuming that this film is "about Charles Manson" despite a whole host of information to the contrary. I don't see the comparison to begin with, but definitely don't see it when one considers that this doesn't necessarily have too much to do with Manson himself.

I mean, he is playing one of the main characters in the Manson episode, probably, though.

True, but considering that the main character acts in Westerns, I'm guessing his relevance to the plot won't only be linked to Manson. Shit, he might be one of the top billed leads, considering the the plot descriptions have been shaping up.

Was he embarrassed to be in Striptease? He should be.

If it is him, it's weird to be embarrassed about being in a movie when your rap sheet also includes attempted murder and racial abuse.

Bad people don't always get their priorities right.

Thanks for this; my opinion of Mr. Wahlberg has gone back up a little bit! Actually, I'm happy that Reynolds has gotten another important role so late in his career. I still think he was marvelous in
Boogie Nights and was disappointed to read in an interview last month that he regretted doing the film and had never seen it.

The Sony pic has brought aboard Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr, Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond in supporting roles for a lineup that already includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen and Tim Roth.
As befits a Tarantino pic, the casting intrigues: Lewis will play the iconic actor Steve McQueen; Fanning is set as Squeaky Fromme, the Manson disciple who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford; Hammond will play director Sam Wanamaker; and Hirsch is Jay Sebring, the Hollywood hairstylist who was one of four victims in the Tate murders on Cielo Drive.
Perry is set to play Scotty Lancer, Collins is Ernesto The Mexican Vaquero, and Keith Jefferson is Land Pirate Keith. It’s the third Tarantino film for Jefferson, who also appeared in The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained.

Collins Jr. and Perry made me excited. Hirsch not so much. Indifferent about Lewis. Fanning is a big interest though.
