I'm still waiting on DVD Planet to ship it, as well as Fists in the Pocket. In contrast, I had the Complete Mr. Arkadin in my hands from them last week at this time.lull wrote:anybody get their Elevator to the Gallows shipped yet? especially from DDD?
the set is coming out tuesday and, other than a few lucky forum members and that DVDTalk reveiw, i haven't heard a thing about it.

Frequently, delays in shipping represent delays on Criterion's end (especially in the latter part of last year, where everything was routinely getting delayed). Criterion acknowledges this tendency by not posting release dates on their own site, but they have to HAVE release dates, so that retailers know when to order, etc.
In other cases, the shipment delays are just based on how many copies any given e-tailer decides to order (usually a month before release date), and the legal issue of letting product get out before release date. This obviously differs between merchants.
As someone in the industry, I got review copies of all of this month's titles a few weeks ago, so at least the first scenario can be ruled out.

Have they arrived yet? I pre-ordered Elevator from CriterionDVD and it still hasn't shipped.lull wrote:

Nope, and I preordered mine from DE back in February.

emailed Customer Service at DDD about Elevator and it's apparent delay. here's what they wrote back:
Your order number ### for the item (HVD001887) ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS is being prepared to ship at this time. You will receive an email confirmation when the order is shipped.
good news; although my Order Status still says the order is Open and i never got the Being prepared to ship email like we usually do. might be a glitch in their system.

Re no shipment of Fists in the Pocket from DVD Planet - last time I looked it said "Out of Stock" - which was the status from the release date onward. I had it on order. I called DVD Planet - but the guy on the phone, though attempting to be helpful, just wasn't well informed. He suggested maybe the disc was out of print. I cancelled my order and ended up buying the thing at a Borders store for full price. DVD Empire when last seen had it as out of stock. But they'd had Fists listed for release on a bad date from word go and when that date arrived and there were no discs, film went into out of stock status where it has remained since.
And let me add to whatever list is compiled somewhere my complete disgust with the incompetency of the "new" web sites for DVD Planet and DVD Empire.

well i received my Louis Malle box set this morning. paid customs on it (2nd one in as many received orders). but what pisses me off is that all four cases had broken spindles so all four discs were moving quite freely inside. out of two that i've checked, one was badly scratched (but looks to play fine - thank god. i can't risk sending it back and having to pay customs on a replacement set(!)).
anyway. two more shipments to go. i don't think i'll deal with DDD anytime soon after this. i know it can't be their fault but right now i have a feeling the third shipment was also caught by customs. in two years dealing with DVDPacific, i only had one package that got picked up. this was my first experience with DDD.
ta. gonna go buy some Amaray cases now.
